he's right that people that come to the us should assimilate to the united states

That's a very simplified version of his argument that.

i think there might be some academic reasons for hyphenations

Does Bobby Jindal? If not - which we see - then you too do no agree and he is not right. Why are you trying to round the edges of a square peg?

but culturally its better for hyphenations to disappear from american culture, the lack of cultural cohesion that is created by promoting "multiculturalism" eventualy will make the country fall apart and make it harder to govern and to do things

Larry Elder or Hitler - which is your hero?

Negro, colored or African-american - which shall I refer to you as? Because at no point were you ever considered American. We fought for it. We died for it. We rioted for it. By law, we're citizens. By law we have to be treated equally. No white man born in the US has ever had to go to the Supreme Court to be seen as human.

Immigrant communities were fostered out of a need to protect their populations from discriminatory policies, both economic and political. Where the fukk is this cultural cohesion that you're harping about?

yeah it is

i dont believe in banning words first of all and i think if academics or journalists are studying certain populations it is accurate to refer to them as - americans, so i was just saying there is a time and place for hyphenations, i just agree that the less they are used the better it is for the country

im not sure what you mean or how it is contesting what i said, the discrimination and oppression of african americans and immigrant communities is evidence of the importance of assimilation and cultural cohesion

in other words the sooner everybody is considered american, period, the easier it is to govern and to get things done in the country

do you bytch when you go to other countries and they present information in english?

do you mean if i immigrate to another country and try to work there do i expect and demand that they speak my language, no i dont

if i move to another country i will obviously have to learn the language over there, thats common sense

so why are people moving to the united states and demanding and expecting somebody to speak their language and not learn english

Bobby is not advocating for a time or place. HE DOESN'T WANT THEM PERIOD.

So how is he right? (why must I repeat myself)

"the lack of cultural cohesion that is created by promoting "multiculturalism" eventualy will make the country fall apart" - :laff: did you even read what you posted. The discrimination and oppression of african americans is the result of opposition TO multiculturalism. Duh.....

What immigrant doesn't consider themselves American? You make this statement as if those who don't consider certain immigrant populations as American, don't believe in this aglo saxon protestant utopia.

You're all over the place. In order for 300 million people, from all walks of life, to be considered American, you HAVE to promote multiculturalism. How else are you going to build a society of inclusion? By forcing all people of different cultures, and religions to adopt one identity? How is that practical? How is that ethical?

People argue against this because it's born from xenophobia, not out of appreciation of the English language.

Again another policy of bigots and xenophobes. Baby boomers had no cares about the integrity of the border when coke and crack were infiltrating urban neighborhoods. Not to mention that both republicans and democrats alike profit off of illegal labor.

Xenophobia my ass. Every nation has the right to assert an identity, if people can't respect that they can kick rocks. We should address drugs coming into the country just like we should address people coming into the country illegally.

lol @ "integrity" of the nations borders...pay fair wages

Again, every respectable nation has clear and identifiable borders. Why should the United States be any different?

Yeah, I have no problem with it really. Just being honest. I can see why some people wouldn't like it, but something has to be done.

Because there is no correlation between the ability to learn English and socioeconomic level. But nah they come over and REFUSE to learn the language that will increase their economic prospects :mjpls:

They don't have to learn the language, but we shouldn't have to cater to their inability or "refusal" to learn it. Go to Quebec, everything is in French. I have no interest in learning French, so I probably wouldn't go and try to live there. It's not that complicated.

Mark their territory? Did you just trivialize the will to survive as a need to "mark territory"

They can have babies and survive in their own countries.

Driven from Honduras by gangs that brandished machetes and robbed his grandmother’s home, Carlos trekked to the border in June with his cousin and a guide, bumping along on buses “all day and night,” he recalled.

That's their problem, not ours.

yeah i read what i wrote, and i stand by it, white people refusing to assimilate with black is what caused the problem, im not saying this is a black person, but just as a general observation, cuz i understand why black people may not want to assimilate with white people lol

but it still stands that if black and white people dont assimilate the country will fall apart, it fell apart 150 years ago, and the racial lines has caused a lot of political problems and as the number of minorities and immigrants increase the faults lines will increase and the poltical divisions will increase

so that is why assimilation is more important than before

What immigrant doesn't consider themselves American? You say that as if those who don't consider certain populations American don't they have this aglo saxon protestant uptopia in mind.

the immigrant that doesnt speak english doesn't consider themselves american and isnt even trying to become american

i think its problematic if you have people living here for years and are pressing "dos for espanol"

Your answer illustrates your ignorance.

First off the proponents of a bilingual society are Americans that speak English. How else would they lobby for their position? They are motivated by the need to help immigrants assimilate into American society by not having to deal with a language barrier. You don't understand the struggle - you're naive.

Secondly, if you have the option to learn another language before you move to a country, then you've already admitting you're in a completely different position in life compared to other immigrants correct? You're already admitting that you're in a better economic position than immigrants who come over here without the ability to grasp English. So therefore the move to another country isn't out of necessity but out of personal preference. You sound like elitist right now. You think everyone is walking this earth speaking English in their spare time? You think everyone is born speaking English? This is something that you have to learn. How and when? You honestly think immigrants do not want to learn English and increase their economic outlook? You honestly think immigrants enjoy being laughed at for their speech patterns and pronunciations?

Ain't nobody demanding you to speak shyt - don't flatter yourself.

i understand who is lobbying for bilingualism and i understand that they are trying to help immigrants, i understand all of that and im still opposed to it

its a dumb idea, and it should be the other way around, immigrants should be pushed harder to learn english and bilingualism should be stopped, that will help immigrants assimilate faster

Secondly, if you have the option to learn another language before you move to a country, then you've already admitting you're in a completely different position in life compared to other immigrants correct? in trying to make policies to "help" immigrants by promoting bilingualism what is actually happening is you are slowing down the process of assimilation

and yeah they are immigrants that dont want to learn english and they dont care about being laughed at for their speech patterns because they live in communities where they never have to speak english, from work, to the bank to even voting, everything is in spanish so they never have to speak english

Ain't nobody demanding you to speak shyt - don't flatter yourself
i have no idea where you are going with this thing about me moving to another country

he is right in that assimilation should be the ultimate goal

Just because he thinks we all should embrace American culture doesn't mean he has the same outlook on what American culture should represent.

Stop trying to romanticize his philosophy. You already disagreed with him when you stated "there is a time and a place."

Hyphenations will always exist as long as immigration is allowed. A fukkn duh

but it still stands that if black and white people dont assimilate the country will fall apart, it fell apart 150 years ago, and the racial lines has caused a lot of political problems and as the number of minorities and immigrants increase the faults lines will increase and the poltical divisions will increase

so that is why assimilation is more important than before

:laff: nikka what! The amount of backpeddling and revisionist history is astounding. Your first statement said, "the lack of cultural cohesion that is created by promoting "multiculturalism" eventualy will make the country fall apart." First off - multiculturalism is the attempt to create cultural cohesiveness. If an attempt to create a multicultural environment results in a society that lacks cultural cohesion, despite the enthusiastic efforts of the immigrant population to assimilate, then isn't that proof of the dominant societies unwillingness to accept them. Assimilation is a two way street (I can't wait for you to argue against this. I guarantee you'll sound like a c00n). I just want to point a few things out to you:
- emancipation of slaves, whites run away, US doesn't fall apart
- Civil rights act, whites run away, US doesn't fall apart
- Integration, whites run away, US doesn't fall apart

But by your theory, this pattern will reverse and result in:
- increased immigration, whites run away, US falls apart :heh:

i didnt say i cosigned every single thing he said

you asked me where i agree and i told you, he is basically right in saying that immigrants dont really have a right to their culture and assimilation as opposed to multiculturalism should be the policy

:laff: nikka what! The amount of backpeddling and revisionist history is astounding. Your first statement said, "the lack of cultural cohesion that is created by promoting "multiculturalism" eventualy will make the country fall apart." First off - multiculturalism is the attempt to create cultural cohesiveness.

yeah exactly, multiculturalism is an ATTEMPT to create cultural cohesiveness, im saying that there is no evidence that multiculturalism helps cultural cohesiveness

If an attempt to create a multicultural environment results in a society that lacks cultural cohesion, despite the enthusiastic efforts of the immigrant population to assimilate, then isn't that proof of the dominant societies unwillingness to accept them.

multiculturalism pretty much guarantees that the dominant society will NOT accept them and it guarantees that the society will remain separate

Assimilation is a two way street (I can't wait for you to argue against this. I guarantee you'll sound like a c00n).

yeah i agree, assimilation is a 2 way street, white people aka anglo saxon protestants will also have to change and adapt

but whatever comes out of the amalgamation of different cultures its important that its called "american" cuz if all you get is a bunch of different cultures and hyphenations that dont get along and dont even speak the same language then that will hurt the country in the long run

I just want to point a few things out to you:
- emancipation of slaves, whites run away, US doesn't fall apart
- Civil rights act, whites run away, US doesn't fall apart
- Integration, whites run away, US doesn't fall apart

i really have no idea what is the point you are trying to make or the point you are trying to dispute

But by your theory, this pattern will reverse and result in:
- increased immigration, whites run away, US falls apart :heh:

sorry im not following what you re saying

its not a strawman, its my whole point, multiculturalism and bilingualism creates populations that dont have a common language, which is bad for the country
