So how exactly does this work? I know Jhalil gets paid. But does Banks get paid too? Did he own the beat or not?

The beat goes to Jahlil... Banks owns the lyrics... Jahlil is the composer. But technically its a freestyle because Banks used it for a mixtape, im sure there was no Paper Work... So banks gets shyt, it's really Bobby's song now legally. "Jackpot" is a freestyle over the "Hot nikka" instrumental in the eyes of a courtroom, if Banks didn't do a production agreement. I highly doubt he did tho, cuz it was a promo thing. If Bobby wanted to give him a percentage of the song, that would be honorable, but he doesn't have to, u snooze, u lose.

This was a label move, they only did this so that the song can go to radio. Because radio cant rotate a song which isn't a "real" rap song. A freestyle on "Jackpot" literally cannot play on the radio. because of the way the payola system works. 50,000 initially per market and 50,000 per song, with the option to switch the song in rotation if the BDS looks shytty after a few weeks. That's why Cash Money will always have those Phantom single's that seem to disappear "Massive Attack" by Nicki for example. You have the option not to pay twice if you switch it in time.

In Bobby's case, he probably has a limited budget, so if this song doesn't take off or atleast garner some success on iTunes its a wrap.
The label's next move will be a digital only ep, with limited promo and backing. They gonna base they investment in that, off of the performance of this single, so it's go time for that kid. He needs to tour immediately. Sucks that Meek got locked because that would have been a great tour partner for him. But he is getting launched by Poe Boy so i'm sure he'll do well... just gotta do that promo run immediately. Get this record over the hump and come with 1 more and he's made. Expect a "Don't Like" type remix of this to come to down the pipeline in a few weeks, with a few heavy hitters on it. That will make a legit national record. Hopefully he won't be like Keef and follow that up with something good. Watch the formula's my nikkas. The business of Hip Hop don't change.

Yea IDK the song is cool but it doesn't scream radio friendly like Keef's dont like. It has some quotable lines and thats it. No catchy, easily recognizable hook. The damn dance is what really makes this song hot. I gave their mixtape a spin yest and the billion dude and rowdy rebel have more of an upside then him. What other songs does this kid have? Keef had like a good 4-5 other tracks outside of Don't Like when he hit the major scene

yeah its all a mystery at this point. I ask you this tho? What was Radio friendly about Dont Like before that Good Music remix? It was just another street chant record. NY hasn't figured out radio friendly yet. This is close as we getting for now.

See the thing is nikkas get mad cuz he's signed and whatnot. But these labels done trick nikkas into working themselves into failure before they sign. Biggie didn't have 30 mixtapes, he got signed off of some freestyles. We heard "Party and Bullshyt" and it was all a mystery after that. The he got polished and came with a record.

This song could be Bobby's "Party and Bullshyt" or it could be his "All Gold Everything"... I think it's his "Party and Bullshyt", u gotta catch street energy while it's still street. Making him wait, he will lose his fire ie. Saigon, countless other nikkas. Nothing worse than being in the game and not being in the game. Now is the perfect time. That's how it USED to be, Illmatic is technically a Demo, Nas' first complete record is IWW. Same logic, let son figure it out publicly. So we will see... He's RAW, but thats a good thing. Reminds me of a DMX, Tupac for his generation. Not hyper lyrical, but he gets that point across, the skills will come later. With them, u selling they team, they credibility and they look/swag. That's what you selling the aura. Bottle that shyt up and move it out.

we really gon sit and act like this deserves radio play at all :youngsabo:

:wtb: yeah lets ignore the most requested record in NY. I have not been to one party this summer and not heard this. Makes sense not to play it on the radio.

It all depends honestly... But in theory both song writers would get a cut...
Only Jahlil would get paid unless Banks had an exclusive license to the beat. Which I doubt since it was a mixtape. They used none of Banks's lyrics

The deliver and bars were amateur, the beats alright, there's nothing special about this track. There's nothing creative about this and he's just name dropping random nikkas in his hood. Hiphop/rap is all bad.

yeah based off of the times i do... i be around young nikkas so they logic and how they talk is different. This that street shyt. He's as lyrical as X was... he's speaking to kid's his age and for where they are mentally it's comparable to a DMX. Maybe not as layered and deep, but this era is alot more simplified. These boys are gun crazy just for the sake of it. It's not about being marginalized and dirt poor anymore. Kid's kill now cause it's cool. Simple as that.

X, Pac, Nas, BIG, that era of rappers asked alot of existential questions in there music. That's why they were dope... They were lyrical and very vast because they were born in the 80's when MCing was an ARTFORM. Street Kid's now with today's culture just aren't that deep and they dont want to be, life begins and end's with being able to project an image and not questioning why. That's Bobby's music, but in terms of what it REPRESENTS... it's very much the DMX dynamic of a dirty street kid, talking some gritty shyt that he lives. Just minus the complex parts.

I aint saying that he's Royce level lyrically. Im saying he connects with HIS audience. I don't listen to his music. I'm in here defending it like I do. But i don't... cause he's not talking MY language. But I understand it, ive heard it and I GET it. Just aint MY cup of tea. But I do see his potential. If Maclemore can get money and we understand why, give him a pass etc. Why can't Bobby?
