But make no mistake: cacs, especially the artsy flirt-with-hip hop cacs, love Kendrick. That's his primary base. They like that he has "respect" in hip hop circles yet his stuff isn't aggressive or soulful enough to force them to dance.

kendrick wrote most outro & hooks for the album, he also recorded demos to show the artists what melodies to use and all that shyt

and the only producer (according to soundwave) who was free to add his own touch was Kamasi Washington.

Soundwave also said Kendrick writes everything, and then he forwards it to his musicians who adjust it. Maybe correct him somehow, or just give him advice. Bilal also said that kendrick was singing the melodies of the beats, he was telling them exactly what he wanted the beats to sound like and what instruments to add on pretty much every part of the beat.

singing melodies and actually playing the instrument are different. Although still way more apart of the process then most rappers. I just wish we could see a guitar in his hands or keyboard. But fukk it. I'm just glad he uses a full band. Love that sound.

martin connor wrote a great article about kendrick btw, saying hes like one of the only rappers who understands the technical aspect of instrumentalisation & music (other than rap)... and that he understands Bebop scales, Altered scales, syncopation and polyrhythms, shifting keys more than most beat makers
