So the CW division been kinda teetering on Raw in that its not getting the desired crowd reactions. Personally I fukk with it and think if they were just given more time every week and the matches meant more, the problems would be alleviated. However, I do feel as though the division lacks any true foundational basis and is like the Diva's Revolution in the sense that it moves like a treadmill and relies on too many things (the crowd giving a fukk off the rip, the matches being good despite given 6/7 minutes tops). What I think they should do to spice things up is this:
- A problem with the CW Division is that most of the Cruisers have no WWE/NXT training and character work done, so they don't know how to really talk and develop themselves. A big part of the CWC was actually letting the wrestlers tell their story in the ring instead of outside it or on a mic. So how do you make each match meaningful and each character have a motivation they can work with?
What I suggest is make the CW Division like an actual sports/MMA type ordeal, where there's legit standings and W/L records (singles, tag matches, triple threats, 4 ways all count towards records). The champ is immediately 0 seed, and whoever is 1 seed by the end of every 4 weeks gets a title shot at the PPV. Matches that the champ wrestles in (which would largely be against non-Cruiserweights or tags) will count toward the champ's record but he won't drop down the standings, so that when he drops the belt, he'll have enough bouts under his record that matches everybody else's. Give designated styles to each cruiserweight (just like in the CWC), so that fans who didn't watch the CWC can understand each wrestler's style and gimmick. Gulak = Technician, Nese = Powerhouse High Flyer, Swann = Lucha Libre/Puro Hybrid, TJP = Showman Striker, Kendrick = Brawler, and so forth. Eventually, you can branch out the CW Division to Smackdown, so that there's a Cruiserweight Raw Conference, and a Cruiserweight Smackdown Conference.
- One Cruiserweight match spruced in every hour, every show starts with a CW match
- Instead of risking overexposure/having the same matchups every week, pair a Cruiserweight with a non-Cruiserweight every week. I wanna see Perkins team up with New Day or Bayley, Kendrick vs. Rollins, Crews vs. Tozawa, Ciampa & Gargano vs. Alpha, Cedric vs. Cesaro, etc.
- Actually run a couple stories within the division based on this W/L system instead of just one rivalry over the title
Raw Conference
-------------------------
0 T.J. Perkins
1 Brian Kendrick
2 Cedric Alexander
3 Neville
4 Tony Nese
5 Rich Swann
6 Drew Gulak
7 Lince Dorado
8 Sin Cara
Smackdown Conference
-------------------------
0 Jack Gallagher
1 Kalisto
2 Gran Metalik
3 Noam Dar
4 Akira Tozawa
5 Johnny Gargano
6 Tommaso Ciampa
7 Sean Maluta
8 Ariya Daivari
- Once WrestleMania season rolls along, there could be like a playoffs where seeds 0-3 in both conferences wrestle in an interbranded tournament, with the finalists battling at Mania and the winner getting a shot at the world title and the runner-up a shot at the secondary title of their respective brands later on
- After each WrestleMania Cruiserweight Tournament, have some cruisers switch brands and bring up new ones in order to keep matchups fresh and also if a finalist moves on to the main event/IC or US title scene, you'll need new guys to fill in for them
TBH I don't know if this would work because it takes a degree of planning and it kinda goes against the way wrestling is booked, but its just a thought that I would like to see
