Finished the anthology The End Of The World As We Know it. 4.5 out of 5 for me. I didn't feel there were any bad stories but there were a few "well that was fine" stories.
I'm going to definitely reread some of the stories in it

Said it @ the other spot, but I'm going to a conversational thing for P. Djèlí Clark, author of Ring Shout. I guess they're finally droppin' a paperback for it. Plus, I'll see what else the breh got planned and maybe ask him some questions as a fellow creator :ehh:

Ring Shout was a let down. 1st I never got over a female Harlem Hellfighter. That was egregious.

@2 Up 2 Down What version of The Stand did you read initially? The OG or The Uncut? I've been chipping away at the latter for a few weeks now cuz this mf is massive ⏸️.
Uncut. I got the og hardcover and was gonna to read that first but I decided to read complete version instead. I couldn't put it down. I believe I read it in about 10 days

Lol is that the only thing you didn't like about it? And tbh, it wouldn't make the top of any lists (for me) of what I read this year but it was a fun read imo. I just saw it as him remixing history a little bit and giving brehs and brehettes the edge.

It probably doesn't help that I'm usually reading two different books at a time....but Duma Key & 11/22/63 ain't no heauxs either in terms of length & I FLEW through those. For whatever reason, there was a point in The Stand where I hit a dragging point--which is partially why I picked up Salem's Lot--but now that OH Abigail gathering all the heathens, I'm starting to be more tuned in lol

:ohhh: you reached a dragging point before Boulder? That is where the pace came down to a halt for most people.

Then set it during WWII and make the women Rosies. That way you got them skillful with tools and strong from metal working.

The story was nice and original tho. But that one part bothered me a lot.

Man that stretch was isolated and depressing as hell, lol. I get it...that’s the point, the world’s gone to shyt and folks tryna make sense of it....but breh, something about those chapters had me up against exhaustion and dread at the same damn time 😭. And it’s weird, ‘cause SK been on dat isolation tip before (11/22/63, Duma Key) and it ain’t hit me like this. Can’t even put my finger on it, but that vibe was heavy. Could've just been me at the time too.

Fair enough. Maybe I'll ask him why he chose to go that route, though I'm sure the answer will be b/c women aren't highlighted in that kind of character role enough or something along those lines. Have you read anything else by him?

Nope. Been trying to read another book by him. But I got a backlog of unread books I gotta read through.

That's the section where King felt he wrote himself in a corner. I feel that section will go by quicker on a reread
