I wish I retained more of what I read. Some rereads should be on the menu

I have a pretty decent memory/recall, but once you've read so much, it can be hard not to lose track of it all. Its one of the reasons I've started keeping light notes when I'm reading. And why I write long reviews on here and elsewhere at times. It helps to embed it upstairs 🧠.

This isn't your 'Chronicles of Narnia' CS Lewis :wow: .

This is probably his most mature, honest, and psychologically dense work. Also, I believe his wife had a heavy hand in guiding him with some of it too, so it's one of the better offerings at presenting a more well-rounded depiction of women as well.

The story itself is a reimagining of the Cupid & Psyche story, but from the 'not even a 6 in Greeklands' sister. One would think she's someone we should hate, but she's written in many ways that's painfully relatable. If you've lived a little, and experienced a few things, you'll see the pieces that resonate.

It does a great job at balancing the psychological unpacking with the fantastical elements (imo).

And now my watch has ended :whew: .

That is the conclusion of my Earthsea journey. It wasn't loud or flashy, but I wouldn't have had it end any other way. It shows respect to everything that we came to know and love from 'A Wizard of Earthsea', and allows space for closure.

Long days and pleasant nights :ahh:

That's #2 down. After The Gunslinger, I wasn't expecting this kind of shift at all, but SK made it work. I had very little gripes about anything in the book other than some of the pacing in between the second and third door. Other than that, it was a fitting expansion for the series.

One down. I love the haunting and feverish dream feel as an intro to the DT mythos. The tones and themes are stronger than the prose and structure...though he did try to go back and clean some things up in the revised joint. I'm 🔒'd in though.
For some reason I can't seem to get through the first book. I'll revisit it soon.

That seems to be the general consensus. Personally, I breezed right through it. Low-key, it might actually be my favorite in the series so far. But I also enjoy that abstract, almost mythic type of writing style...just as much as I love his grittier work.

Also, breh wandering in the desert for so long can be off-putting for some too. If you're looking for "action" to break that up, there's not much. So, if you go into looking through a lens of "The Gunslinger is about to let his 🔫🔫 off", it might've curtailed you from finishing too.
