The problem isn't experimenting and going left field, it's putting out shytty music.

Regardless of how reviewers said the album was great only because it was different and the lyrics were cool despite being shytty because it showed Ye really didn't care, it was a shytty album.

Exactly. You can experiment and make great music. THe problem here isn't Kanye experimenting, it's just half-assed album and you can hear the lack of effort in it.

It sounds like a mishmash of random shyt thrown together at the last minute

Dude had his video premiere on 66 landmarks around the world and people are saying he had very little advertisement. :dahell:

and apparently going on SNL is considered very little advertising.......:childplease:

"Saturday Night Live," with host Ben Affleck and musical guest Kanye West (4.7/12 in metered-market households) dominated its time period, delivering the top rating of the night among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in the Local People Meters. “SNL” earned its highest rating in metered-market households since April 6

LMAO @ that being "VERY LITTLE ADVERTISEMENT".............c'mon now bruh.....

When I say little I mean in comparisons to the type of promotional campaign an artist of Kanye's caliber usually has. Again look at the type of promotion he had for MBDTF as compared to Yeezus. Controlled leaks, interviews, performances, videos, radio singles, etc. The building projections were cool, but for an artist like Kanye that's usually just the tip of the iceberg promotion wise. Look at Hov, the man partnered with one of the most powerful technological companies of our era and had them purchase ONE MILLION COPIES of his album for distribution on one of the most popular and best selling smartphones of the year. He's got that youtube commercial playing 24/7 before damn near EVERY video you search for, and with all that he's still projected to do his usual 400-450k first week. I'm sure a phone company would LOVE to have had that type of business partnership with Kanye....

Hell look at Nas last year, he did more promotion for LIG than ANY album he's released within the last decade. three singles, three videos, the VH1 Behind The Music special, The Youtube unveiling of the cover art, all BEFORE the album dropped. Kanye didn't do ANY of that and pushed 300k. I find that personally, to be extremely good with the way overall sales have been declining.

He doesnt need to advertise an album release like he use to......going on SNL and the projections were all he needed.......even when he wore those red yeezys on SNL twitter was going ridiculous.......I wont even start on his relationship which garners him enough attention as it is......

all he needed for what? the SNL performance is the bare minimum of what you usually see for a big artist. Look at JT earlier this year and the media storm that came with him. he was on jimmy fallon every night, performing in other places, music video and big hit single on the radio.

and projections are a fukking gimmick. shyt sounded wack as fukk when we first heard it too. you really think hearing a song once is big promotion? j cole has had his song playing on the radio every hour for months

kanye did the SNL performances last time + a huge leadup to the album release of leaking tracks, doing videos, grammys etc

anyway, who knows if more traditional promotion would have made a difference cause none of these songs are commercially friendly. at least dark fantasy had all of the lights and a nicki minaj verse.

there definitely was a big marketing campaign to push this album painting kanye as this pseudo-revolutionary anti-social douchebag but all that does is get out the base and the hardcores, not the crossover casual fans that used to be coppin his albums and he relied on for big first week numbers

After week one, most ppl were bigging up Cole's CD over Yeezus in the streets so word of mouth was to get Cole's album over Kanye's so I'm not surprised.... plus Cole actually has singles

Proof that if you make the same album twice (not three like Curtis tried) and speak about the same issues you'll be rewarded. Wonder if this will stop rappers from experimenting and going left field with their music.

Fistful of jewels
Hip Hop doing some good numbers. kendrick and J cole are the 1st artist in a min to make a strong Hip Hop album and do good numbers

These two dudes are restoring my faith in Hiphop. They are making Hiphop albums, not just catchy singles, but entire albums. They are going to carry this generation. Looks like generation wackness is nearing its end. Wheres that clown soulja boy? Lil wayne? Jeezy? Gucci? nobody is trying to hear that garbage anymore. lockaflocka? pssh. garbage. The time for "I don't even write rhymes" and "I'm not a rapper" has passed.
