So I recently started a new position at new company where I submit a time sheet every week. This is different for me compared to other salaried positions where I just show up, work a number of hours and leave. Also my previous role was remote and it wasn't required for me to submit a time card and time available was a bit more lax.

This is a senior level position BTW and low six figures salaried. The kicker is that any time over 40 hours I work I am eligible for overtime which is :ohhh:

I recently got adjusted to my new place. For two weeks I was staying at a friend's place and coming in between 9 - 9:30 and putting my 40 hours in.

I ran an errand the other day and notified my boss in person I was working on some passport stuff (I may go out the country in a few months for this job).

So today is very busy. This is my fourth week in the job and I am still learning. He has told me that I'm not expected to be 'productive' until about three months in. I'm still learning and honestly still working on getting all my access I need to perform my job.

Long story short I check an email later that is attached to my time card. To paraphrase it stated that I am supposed to submit my lunch hours in my time sheet. He also stated that I am expected to be at work on time at 9, not 9:30. This was my first and final warning. :stopitslime:

To be clear, I was never given a set time to come in. This is my fourth week in and the only time I was told to come in at 9 now was during a shift turnover and since then I came into work before 9. Also, I never took time off for lunch. I went to walk and get food within our building and came back and ate at my desk. :yeshrug: I can be meticulous and report that small time if that is what they want though.

I feel like I need to clarify these things with him just 1-on-1 and honestly for the most part he has been pleasant to work with. Even with the passport stuff he just said "just take the time you need and get it done". The expectations of the role are quite loose for this position and to produce good work.

Maybe there is a cultural clash here. Coming from a remote position where no time was set and I even worked during off hours to complete things was nothing. I also was in a company prior that I would say was far more lax than the rest of the tech field.

On one hand; I get it. I should be there on time. I also was not set the correct expectation for that initially. I also did not like the email talking me down. :gucci:

I frankly took this position at a time because I wanted to work. I suffered a layoff a few months ago and took it, but I admit I have some trepidation with the parent company. I am wondering how I should smooth this out but I also feel like I should stay in contact with many of my peers I know and look elsewhere if some sort of real clashing comes to surface.

Yeah I think it's kind of petty for me to do this but if he giving me a warning on a nebulous expectation of time being a salaried employer then I should do the same.

Coming from other places the time policy has been starkly different. Also being accused of going to lunch and not putting my time in was odd.

My advice, just say yes sir, I'm sorry and it won't happen again.
Take the formal warning.

He let you know he really doesn't want you there with some shyt like this.

So now make sure you come 15minutes early to work.
Document everything and start working on an exit strategy, either from that position in the company under your boss or to a different company. Dress up the resume with the shyt you are doing here or are scheduled to do and start searching again.

The weird thing is that I went through the interview and it all went really well, did the background check, etc everything was good to go.

Pleasant in person and we went over my expectations. It's been my fourth week into this position. I just find it certainly odd.

Luckily I had some companies contact me after I got this position. Thing is I already relocated for this job, but in an area that is prime for tech jobs, etc.

I've been writing down when I come in just to align with my time sheet and I'll adjust accordingly.

Folks only make an issue out of things like that, especially when you are doing your job, when they don't want you there.
Your hiring must have come from either over his head or people ignored who he really wanted.

I wish the best for you, but if that guy is your boss, longterm it might be best to start looking elsewhere.

I see man...smh. Annoying given all of the circumstances. I can find something in a few months I'm sure. It only took me 6-8 weeks to get an offer with this place I'm at.

Well we spoke and clarified and he thought after he sent the email "maybe no one told him what time to come in". You think?! :comeon:

He said he just felt he had to make it clear.

Anyways I just said I'm not trying to make anyone's job harder and regarding lunch I'll put my time in appropriately.

Still going to cover my ass.

lying his ass off when you confronted him, if it was clarification why did he say first and final, ie threaten you.
The guy sounds like a real snake

Right. The thing is he is always laughing and pleasant, but I've dealt with more passive aggressive managers before. Basically needing to find a reason. Also being black they probably have to have a paper trail to get you if they want you out.

But yea first thing when he came in the office I asked to speak with him.

Create your own job breh. :dame:

When I worked from home that was the closest thing I had to working for myself. Pretty much did what my boss and peers needed. I didn't have a set schedule. I worked hard too. We just had a reduction in force and I was one of them.

I met this one brother in Utah that has a minority owned business in DC. He asked me to send me my resume a few days ago. :takedat:

Trying to keep my contacts strong. I'm in a very good tech city and have contacts so that's the next step is to side hustle.

Oh and I forget this place I'm at is a government contractor.

Definitely do breh. The more control you can have over your life the better you'll feel and the easier your life will be. Good luck.
