You were never told what time you had to come in......?:comeon:

Not until I was on-call I was told I gotta come in the next day for a shift change :russ: I don't have a reason to lie man. I was working from home the past year I'm not used to Corporate America anymore

This is going against the grain but sometimes you have to give people the benefit of the doubt. Think about it from the other perspective. If he in fact believed that you were told that 9am is the expected start time (which he apparently admitted was a mistaken assumption), then for a new employee to have come in up to a half hour "late" for at least 2 weeks would be an issue for most managers/executives.

From reading your post, it seems like the only issue you've had is adjusting to a set time. Everything else you wrote suggests that you're actually pleased with the new gig. Don't take it too personally when a supervisor acts like he/she is marking their territory - that is common everywhere, in every industry. Focus on your ultimate goals and the reason why you took the job. Don't get stuck in the weeds.

Be strategic. What can you do, what can you learn, who are the people that you can bring into your network from your current position - that will help you reach your ultimate goal ??

The biggest mistake IMO that people make in the corporate world is focusing too much on whatever day to day issues they may be having with their co-workers, supervisors etc. Accept that you will run into a$$holes, racists, people who are patronizing, people who will try to steal your ideas or shyt on yours behind your back. That will happen no matter where you work and even more so if you have your own company. And if self employment is your eventual goal, anyone who owns their business will tell you that dealing with these sorts of issues is a part of paying your dues. This is where you need to be putting your head down, producing EXCELLENT (not just good enough/sufficient) work product and most importantly SAVING so that you can actually afford to go out on your own (if that is your eventual goal).

:mjcry:
damn, soul Burning words to hear as a grown man, I see why my father made it his lifes work not to call anyone boss. Trying my best to go that route.

Yeah honestly from what I've heard this place is real corporate. I haven't heard any of that shyt in years :wow:

So I cleared the air. Just going to to work early and cover my ass if anything. If shyt hits the fan I'll bounce.

Corporate life is so demoralizing. :mjcry: Especially if you're a black male in a majority white setting. The worst moment of my life was being talked down to by a fat cac last year. Dude was hella condescending on the daily. Even blamed me for stuff someone else messed up on :dahell: Ain't worth it to me anymore. Best of luck to any other brehs trying to make it in corporate America.

Do you sense any :mjpls:?

No honestly. I talked to him on the phone and they wanted to fly me out to do an on site interview.

Then the interview went fast. I'm getting paid six figures here but honestly this place is quite corporate.

I have a 1 on 1 with him today so I'll give y'all feedback

Yeah from the talk I had with him today it just seems that he's by the books as a manager. I had more lax managers and of course as my grandma said "every boss has a boss has a boss" so he has to be accountable for his team and how people are working.

Definitely with the more "startup" culture I felt in web hosting and also with my previous role where I was working remote, this is a stark difference not only in how people behave but how they operate. I will have to play towards that so it won't be reflected on my performance (which I am a high performer in the right environment) and just do what I need to do.

In the interim I will continue building my network here in case I need to jump ship or even if I find something I deem a better fit for me

I mean I guess since you have to submit time sheets, it's good practice to find out what time your expected to be at work.

I'm salaried so I technically start work at 8am, but I'll show up anytime before 8:30. Been doing this for about 3 years with no issue.

It's good practice to over communicate exactly what the expectations are first then observe and see how laxed the rules can be before assuming everything is ok. Sounds like you got off to a rocky start but good luck, things may settle. If not, be confident in your skills and know that you can be an asset somewhere else, it's not the last job left on earth
