I'm watching the All 22 and Hurts is running out of clean pockets and when he is not doing that he's missing WRs on crossers or holding on to the ball

Hurts having elite protection was obvious during the game, I think during this specific play the announcers commented on how much time Hurts had to work with
It's hard to know without seeing the routes but I feel like at some point the routes don't even matter as they are going to break down and improvise when you have this much time to throw. When your OL is giving you 5+ seconds of protection in the NFL you need to be producing HUGE passing stats

This is because he's risk-averse and prioritizes limiting turnovers above all else. Hurts is someone who I believe is very aware of his limitations, even if he doesn't speak on them. While he doesn't have an overwhelmingly strong arm, he usually puts great touch on his deep passes.

All that said, he's the type of QB who would rather try throws that eliminate or lessen the risk of turnovers. Going over the middle would be the last thing he'd like to do when the other option is a sideline throw where either his guy gets it or no one does.
