Thurman Confident Porter Won't Go All 12 Rounds - Boxing News
"On June 25th the eagerly anticipated Keith Thurman-Shawn Porter welterweight showdown will finally take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The Showtime produced fight card will be broadcast on CBS with Jesus Cuellar facing Abner Mares in the co-feature bout.
The first date mentioned for the fight was December 12th, 2015 but with injuries and venue changes, the date was pushed back 6 months. When Thurman steps in the ring, he will have been out of action for 11 months. Even with the extended layoff, he doesn't anticipate feeling any ring rust "In the fight no but played a factor in training camp. It started off just a little slower than normal but you sharpen it up as the weeks go by. It is going to end up not being a factor at all," said Thurman.
Thurman said that he has a plan for any style that the usually aggressive Porter may try to employ on fight night. Porter is known for being a come forward fighter and Thurman believes that plays right into his hands. "The fans are going to see a typical methodical fight, man. I am going to go in there, hands up, protecting myself, looking for my shots and really try to see what fighting style Shawn and Kenny Porter believe is the fight style necessary to win the fight. If he comes in the way I think he is going to come in, I am simply going to be looking to time him and hopefully close the show early,".
