:wow: thanks breh

I thought keith edged it out by a couple rounds :whew:. i wouldnt have been mad at a draw. Keith needs to tighten up those punches though, he could have done MUCH more damage not swinging as wide, Porter was definitely there to be hit/and was stunned a couple times imo
I don't need your daps breh, however much appreciated, I need that rep.

I see everybody is divided on who won the fight.

I had it Thurman 116-112. I see alot of 115-113 for Porter as well. Some had it a draw. Really no wrong decision, I just felt Thurman did the better and more effective work :yeshrug:

Was the FOTY so far though IMO and would love to see a rematch. Although I don't think Porter is staying as WW much longer, so we'll have to weight a bit for that.

Thurman/Swift would really be a tossup, and at first I favored Keith but now I'm starting to favor Danny

So if Porter doesnt remain a WW much longer, he's venturing into Jr.Mw territory. How do you see him competing with the Charlos, Laras, or Trouts, etc.?

Edit post: Canelo possibly considering he's hiding.

I think he's in for a rude awakening when he moves up because he's not a very good boxer and his rough house tactics won't work against bigger guys. Not sure he beats any of those guys if to be honest

Another Gold Medal
Just watched most of the highlights from every round

I had it for Thurman as well but im biased. I really dislike Porters sloppy, wrestling, mauling type style. Its not really boxing, its just throwing the most punches and trying to be more physical until you wear your opponent out. It looks like he wants to box then he lunges in throwing whatever, then ties you up and pulls/pushes, uses his weight/strength to lean on the fighter until he exausted

Thurman was ready for that. Ready for this ugly, sloppy style. Like he said in the presser, if he was throwing those shots going forward instead of off his back foot, he probably couldve KO'd Porter. Instead he tried to move his feet, back up into ranges, rope a dope, etc., which worked but made Porter look better and more like the aggressor imo. My coach used to always tell us try not to go backwards as much as you can, unless it's to get in and out of range (but you can also pivot and get different angles for the same thing) because even if you countering well, he looks like the aggressor if youre backpedaling

Which is exactly what this was at times. I give Thurman more props then Porter because that wasnt his style, yet he sat in the pocket often trading blows like a wild person, countered off his backfoot, and won a lot of sloppy exchanges. Only time i saw Thurman "hurt" was when he got hit with one body shot but looked a lil low honestly... And Porter had already been warned a few times about going too low. But i gave Porter that...

Basically, Porter tries to bring his football, mauling mentality in almost every fight but an above average boxer thats strong is going to win 9/10 times against him. Thurman didnt look as polished as Kell Brook did against Porter but he did have the more effective punches which means Thurman won Imo. Like Tyson had a similar style to Porter except Tyson had effective ass punches and he didnt smother his own offense along with better headmovent, reflexes, etc. Porter does a lot of shyt i thought was wrong imo but gets away with it by smothering and wrestling his opponents down. Like Broner couldve probably KO'd Porter too if he wasnt scared to let his hands go

It was a good fight. I dont care for a rematch though. Casual fans are going to love it but it definitely wasnt a chess match. At least, it didnt look like it to me.

I think it was a chess match it's just that nikkas was trying to knock each other's heads off instead of "winning rounds".

So it was a chess match were you blow up your opponent's piece when you take it. :heh:

Nah, different opinions.

It wasnt as much of a chess match imo, it was too wild, reckless, and sloppy. Thurman might have been thinking more when he was getting ranged punches and boxing, but only time i thought porter was thinking was when he would do something like double jab to get inside. But honestly, it was just punches in bunches whenever (and however) he got close.

He smothered most of his own shots, rabbit punching, low punches on the belt, etc., he doesnt strike me as a person who thinks in the ring. There was hardly any countering or anything. He would slip a jab and throw a punch but he was already low to begin with.

As long as he got off first and was physical, its like he didnt care what he threw.

Thurman fought like that because he felt like he had too... Punches in bunches looks good to refs so he had to keep up the work rate as well but he knew he had the left hand there, but he didnt jab and set up shots, traps, etc as well as he normally did.

At least, imo. Most casuals seem to like brawls like that. Flurries, etc. Im not into it unless its effective shots. Porter smothers his own offense imo and has no real defense other than slipping here and there and holding/wrestling

Maidana probably aint coming back but, I think Porter would handle him based on the body work shown last night and his chin. Devon Alexander and Floyd in the rematch were performing gastric bypass surgery on Maidana. He's tailor made for body punchers. Floyd said he was gonna go to the body prior to fight #2, and he had Marcos taking some deep breaths after the spears and hooks when in close range. Plus, Porter's chin is just...wow. Just a hard head. His teeth might be an extension of the adamantium in his dome.

Will Danny's power carry at this weight though? Malignaggi doesnt count, but he had trouble with both Peterson and Guerrero. Keith just might hurt him if he boxes as opposed to looking for the KO like you mentioned. Khan was beating his azz something fierce until that fateful exchange.

Broner/Garcia is a toss up to me cuz its gonna go to the judges. Broner's gonna walk him down, and confidently eat counters and get his own sh!t off. Dont know who will ultimately look better when its all said and done.
Nikka said danny had problems with guerrero :mjlol:

I think a lot of people are gonna go with which styles they prefer to.

a lot nikkas just dont like porter style to begin with cause its so fukkin sloppy.
This is what really confuses me about Porter. I don't like his sloppy bull forward style either, but what really makes me confused about watching him is that Porter had a good amateur career and has a lot of meaningful professional fights, yet his style views as not very skillful.

Don't get me wrong, Porter definitely has skill in what he does and he wouldn't get where he is if he wasn't skilled, but there is something about the way it looks, it looks like he is an unskilled fighter.

Breh I've complained about porter's style for years back when he was a ShoBox regular...nothing has changed since except his weight lol

they took down the full fight on dailymotion

are there any links to rewatch this? :to:

For boxing fans that didn’t get a chance to see last Saturday night’s thrilling fight between WBA World welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) and Shawn Porter (26-2-1, 16 KOs), the fans can see it tonight on CBS Sports Network at 10:00 p.m. ET. CBS will also be showing the war between 154lb contenders Jarrett Hurd and Oscar Molina, which in some ways was a more action-packed fight than the Thurman-Porter fight.
