Kobe's salary: $27,849,149 % fine for physical or verbal flopping (let's say $25K)

=

1114 HEYYYYYYYY's to burn over 82 games. Divide that and you get

Kobe flopping 13.5 times a game.

:childplease: this isn't gonna curb shyt

Oh shyt :dead:

I think it'll be a system like the techs where eventually players get suspended. The flops will add up much quicker than techs.

I hope this is just the first step and that repeat offenders will eventually start getting techs and/or suspensions. I mean soccer players can get a yellow card if they dive in the penalty area, why can't something similar be used in the NBA? After all it goes against the "respect of the game" just as much as protesting against a call imo.

It does say a lot about the state of the game today that this is actually an issue.

Flop should be $250K. That will kill all that noise real quick. I say 2 flops, kicked out of game. 3 flops, 1 game suspension, after that, get suspended 1 game for each subsequent flop. Game will get cleaned up overnight.

If you're gonna make a flop harsher than a flagrant, every basketball player will turn into Motaw

its no harder than the block/charge call or the restricted area call. which means they'll miss some but call (or don't call) 75/80% of them. if a conscious effort was made to not call them, the flopping would stop.

Don't you think referees are already trying not to call flops as fouls? Do you really think they are calling it a foul, but in their mind they're thinking "Damn it was a flop, but I call flops as fouls?" No. They are deceived by players and by the speed of the game. They already look for flops as a judgment call to determine if it's a foul or not. You want them to try harder or something? A hefty fine and maybe something like having 5 or more occurrances equals a suspension may be the best way to approach this. You don't want them to call techs on players for a judgment call if we find out later that they actually were fouled.

what makes it worse is that a player like Chris Paul can flop and depending on who he runs into, you'll never really tell where he flopped or whether the bigger player really fukked him up.

As far as fining and suspending players afterward, that won't be a deterrence at all during game 7 of a Finals or a major must win game. They'd pay the fine 3 times if it meant winning a title or advancing to another round.

I think if they make the fines public, then it could be effective in shaming the players into not flopping. shyt would be like a stat on their permanent record.

what about players who flop and get fouled at the same time?

I think there is a big difference between selling a foul and an outright flop. Floppers trying deceive the refs and possibly get a player a tech for nothing at all.

Like when dudes pretend like they got elbowed in the chops when they didn't even get hit.:heh:

if it looks like a flop, dont blow ur whistle.

the flopper looks like a dumbass and the game keeps playing on with him on the floor.

how hard his this??
Ex fukkin zactly.

Its basically like Stern and the refs are saying "we reserve the right to call bullsh!t fouls to rig the game...but ya'll better not pretend to be fouled or else "

This is a good point. Public fines might spur a culture shift in the league, making it humiliating to get caught for flopping.

Ain't nothing humiliating about getting the call by any means. It's a p*ssy ass way to play basketball, but it's not illegal. Flopping is effective because of what HHR was alluding to. It's a split second call on the spot that you have to make. shyt is difficult to differentiate at that pace. We have the benefit of slow motion 1080P HD 240HZ 3D, clear as day replays to determine what they should have caught in real time. It's getting to the point where we want technology to replace referees and umpires. Just have a CPU determine fouls and judgment calls like in video games. Unfortunately nothing is foolproof, and flops will be done as long as the benefit outweighs the consequences.

:usure:

I don't know hard it is, but it is damn sure a lot easier when you're watching it on your television at home and get to see all of the replays.
