He gotta point. I think the issue more or less is that most of this music is either a obv throwback or built on a sample. Not a fan of his, but I think Leon Thomas doing something cool though to me he just taking Lucky Daye spot.

Man Leon is selling on his tour to where they jack the price up to 200 dollars in atl. That's one thing about todays shows, ticket scalping and anticompetition issues.
I can actually afford it but I won't buy on principal.

That’s why I’m asking him who the new generation is, he’s not giving any example. For a dude that came out in the 90s. 2010s artists might be the new gen. As they are all in the post Spotify, no mtv/radio gatekeeper era.

Im flabby when it comes to commercial music, don’t know any new artist after covid. It’s still people dominating the game as far as I see.

Also depends on venues and prices of course. Lil Baby had stadiums at 200 bucks solo, does that make sense? It makes cents, they optimize profit not amount of tickets sold.
Most of the people you named are 15+ years into their careers. Even NBA Youngboy been around for 10 years now. A rap career used to last 5 years if you were lucky. But it isn't really new artists fault. The streaming era isn't great at making new stars. In a lot of ways, the irrelevance of MTV and the music video has hurt music more than any other factor.

Yeah, the scalping gotta stop. I think his career just starting to solidify, though even without competition his longevity gone be in trouble with these ticket prices. Die-hard fans will go to the show, but building in a cost barrier will have him missing potential fans who still care about live music... I know we can watch the live performances on YouTube, but it's not the same.

I don't think he gotta elaborate live show that need a $200 ticket, but he probably gotta recoup. Issa good look he on Motown though.

Baby’s first tapes came out after NBAs. So the lines are blurry.

Baby and Durk had a tour that did 15 million years ago, they’ll probably do twice that today. It’s all about money to these guys with the new pricing strategies and shyt. He obviously can’t generate that buzz alone, hell even Lil Wayne has those problems. So marketing, pricing, timing, buzz, collabos and all these things obviously matter.

But I semi agree with him that concerts is about impact. 50 fell off quick as fukks but the impact he had means he can sell out forever. Same with 70s rockers or whatever. But I don’t agree that certain artists from the fast music/streaming era didn’t have a major impact.

Sales and "impact" pre-social media is the same as NBA stats before nikkas took over, grossly inflated stats and way less competition

Those artist had WAY bigger marketing budgets and there was a bottleneck on exposure, if your label had enough money you were gonna have your video on all the countdown shows for the year and be wildly famous

That doesn't mean what you made was THAT good, your only competition was other artists with major label backing, not the entirety of the Internet like today's artist have to compete with

It’s blurry being that like Travis is one year before NBA, that’s an arbitrary cut off point. Might as well call baby new and not nba.

I’d rather define things by what he’s talking about which is the technology/internet era, cause that’s what has changed between the old and the new. Or else, I don’t know what we are discussing. That people who debuted in 2017, 16 are different from 14, 13 and 12 in what regard?

From my impression he’s talking about all cats from the tech era. But then again, I see people in other genres doing good numbers and tours. Even UK guys selling their European tours, or Nigerian their global tours. So it might just be a timing question, in rap those older guys still reign supreme. While in some other genres they’ve managed to replace or compliment the older with new talents. Albeit that rap might have the occasional Sexxy Redd, Cardi, or NBA youngboy.

That ain’t the new generation they all came up in the 2010’s. The new generation would be doechii, Ice Spice, Cash Cobain, Baby Keem, NBA Youngboy, NLE Chopper, Big Latto, Doja Cat, Yeat, Glorilla, Sexxy Redd, Yeat, Jack Harlow and lil nas x.

The current gen makes microwave music but music in general has gone in that direction with the rise in streaming and decline in physical media.
