This is misleading. The $330 million in grants wasn't just to hire more cops. Some funding went to that, but a good chunk went to supporting community-oriented programs, youth and school safety initiatives, and new tech to improve police transparency. They also invested in alternatives to incarceration, like diversion programs, mental health support, and reentry initiatives, which has been aimed at reducing the reliance on prisons. Plus, community violence intervention programs now have dedicated funds to handle violence through non-law enforcement strategies, led by local community members. A lot of these changes were things activists have been fighting for, especially the violence intervention program.
