It’s official: Crime doesn’t pay.

A crook who tried to hold up a 39-year-old motorist during a sneaker sale scam in Brooklyn was struck by his fleeing victim and was slammed against a fence, where he may have lost an arm, police sources said.

The victim had agreed to meet the robber after answering a Craigslist ad about some Air Jordan sneakers for sale, the sources said.

The two met on E. 86th St., then apparently went to Ave. M, where the suspect got out of the vehicle and attempted to rob the motorist.

In a panic, the victim gunned the engine, briefly pinning the suspect against a fence.

The thief dropped the gun upon impact, officials said. By some miracle, he somehow managed to hobble down Ave. M onto a city bus.

After a two block ride, the bus stopped and an ambulance was called to take the man to an area hospital, where he was in grave condition.

A shoebox containing Air Jordan sneakers — which range in price from $79 to $190 depending on the style — was found by the scene.

Cops were questioning the victim Friday afternoon.
