even if you send money as a gift paypal can still open a dispute. especially if you have any emails, ebay listing info, or any communication stating payment was sent for goods. happened to me once on some cement 4s and i got my money back. helped a guy on niketalk do it as well when he got scammed for stealths.
might be too late for you now, but for others in the future that get scammed there are options. give paypal a call and speak to them. if that person won't help you hang up and speak to someone else. worse thing you can do is give up.
as a buyer and occasional reseller it's more about the principle of keeping your word than the money for me. i hate to see scammers win. but shady cats are on both sides though. people that make deals and hold out on payment asking for a lower price. people that sell you a pair of kicks then turn around and take more money from someone else after you had an agreement in place. the virtual marketplace is risky.
