Brad Pitt: Good, Great, or Mediocre?

I was talking with some of my friends about actors/movies, and the topic came up on how good an actor he is. One says he's pretty overhyped and is mediocre overall while the other thinks he's a great actor(A-list even.) He seems to make alot of good choices in regards to the films and roles he's picked, but I wouldn't say he's elite just merely very good. What ya'll think?

when hes in hes good but I cant recall off top a scene or movie where hus acting was immensly amazing in a long time

imo, never lets you down, does his job, never WOWs you but you know Pitt will do the role good enough no matter what it is. can't think of anything he's been bad in

I have always considered Pitt to be an underrated actor. His performances in Kalifornia, The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, Tree of Life and 12 Monkeys showed that he has skills but he rarely is called upon to do much acting in most of his movies.

Needs the right role/director...like most actors.

His performances in these two films was incredible. But yeah, a lot of the time he plays somewhat uninteresting, mediocre parts.

That's not fair man, Walt'z character is what made the entire movie...any capable actor would have stole the show in Inglorious Basterds

he's good, but he is a movie star in the truest sense of the word. he does not disappear into character, which ultimately undercuts his acting chops and allows other actors of similar talent level to shine. if he was great, he could overcome this like a deniro, denzel, leo, etc., but he is just good, so he cant.
