Why downgrade like that??
and yes, he's an excellent coach, Celtic are gonna come up quickly
im not saying itll be even close to any time soon. im talking years down the line.
This was from this past December:
But the Boston Globe's Gary Washburn wonders whether or not the former Butler coach could be enticed to leave early, for home -- for Indiana.
"It's not that Crean is on the hot seat, but his position at Indiana is tenuous and there has been speculation that the school would make a hard push at Stevens, a Zionsville, Ind., native, if Crean were to exit."
For the Indiana view of things, Washburn turned to 1070 The Fan talk show host and former IU player and coach Dan Dakich.
"I get asked all the time, 'Hey, who would you hire?' " said Dakich. "I said before the question even finishes, I'd hire Brad Stevens and [Virginia Commonwealth coach] Shaka Smart. I don't care if it's the Celtics. I don't care if it's the Lakers. I don't care if it's Duke. I don't care if it's Indiana. I don't care if it's to be my accountant. They're so smart. They're so good with people and they just have a way of relating. I can't imagine that any major [college] job is going to open up and they're not going to get a call."
So if there was an opening in Bloomington would Stevens be interested?
"I know he enjoys the hell out of the Celtics," Dakich said. "I know he enjoys the challenge that is the NBA. I know that. We've talked about that. That's not media [talk]. I'm not going to say that ultimately the Indiana job wouldn't appeal to him, but I'm saying I honestly don't think people think, 'Of course he would come back.'"I bet you Brad probably thought about it when he was at Butler, but I would venture a guess he hasn't given that two thoughts since he's been with the Celtics. I would bet my life on it."
Stevens shot it down..and like I said earlier..the "whispers" shot it down...but theres an obvious connection there and if Stevens has a dream to coach IU at some point he wouldnt see it as a downgrade at all. He'd still get a shyt ton of money...Coach K etc may have been able to "upgrade" in the past to prestigious NBA teams but chose not to. Same with Saban bouncing back to Bama and staying there..Billy Donovan backing out of Orlando to stay at UF...and Larry Brown at SMU. Different strokes for different folks.
I was a little upset when we started winning games lately cuz it's throwing a monkey wrench in the Tank. But the C's are playing good ball even when losing high priced players in Rondo and Green, and Sully going down for the year. Stevens is developing a good culture of competing with guys who are not thought of as being elite
