Tom Burrell is one of the icons of the advertising industry. He helped expand the role of Black people working in the business, building on what the early African American print press and Ebony Magazine started. He's from an African American family in Chicago.
He has a unique insight into the role and effect of images & propaganda. A lot is made about white supremacy being promoted, but the flipside ,"the promotion of Black inferiority" is rarely discussed.

Not to any way be confused with YTers who create (and monetize) content which only complains about problems, Burrell created The Resolution Project.

As founder of the Resolution Project, a nonprofit organization to create "stop the brainwash" campaigns, Mr. Burrell sees the new media as the way out of the black inferiority cycle he describes. "With technology, we have the opportunity to institute a new communication model, elevate cultural dialogue and reward positive thinking." Using blogs and websites, the "new black brains," as he calls them, can counter negative propaganda and create new success stories.

"Branding got us into this mess. Branding can get us out. Only this time we're branding ourselves," Mr. Burrell concludes.
