They weren't. Not sure if Brandy spoke on this. But Monica did when the idea was suggested. She wasn't against it, what she said was she would only do it if it was a way to appreciate both artists career and legacies. If she felt it was just suggested to put them too against each other (which has been done for the past 20 years) then she wouldn't do it

I got it in reverse - I think Brandy first album had the better “hits”, album had like 6 bangers... and I like Monica better personally
I think after that, Monica later albums were a lot better.
