His character was one of the best things about that show. He’s full of shyt. Just come to grips with the fact that Hollywood only has so many roles for black actors.

:francis:

That's BS. It may have been true twenty years ago when The Jamie Foxx Show was ending, but in the streaming era, there are more shows and movies with black actors and black creators than ever.

Dude just got typecasted, not unlike Jaleel White or Alphonso Ribeiro. :yeshrug:

Depends on the demand/bag you get from it.

This brehitto is contractually obligated by God to play a California ese gang banger in any movie that calls for it. But at least for him it's an easy bag.

Yeah, if this is keeping him from actually getting roles, that's a problem and he has every right to be upset about it. It's one thing if he was getting Braxton-type roles and didn't want them, but if casting directors just see him as Braxton and don't hire him for anything, then he doesn't work.

Jaleel White dealt with it, Dustin Diamond dealt with it. Several other actors and actresses dealt with it. Being typecast is like a punishment for an actor. They're getting penalized for being way too good at one role, which should show they can act, but the only reason they're not given a chance is because they excelled at a role. It's a catch-22.

Imagine other famous actors dealing with this. If Bryan Cranston got typecast, you don't get Breaking Bad.
He ALMOST didnt get the role of Walter because the executives in charge of Breaking Bad could only see him as Hal from Malcolm in the Middle. It was only after they saw his guest appearance in the X-Files episode 'Drive' did they give him a shot.

He was able to get a Superbowl commercial

And played a commander on Black Lightning...

Maybe he should call up Overton from Living Single & start a series

:yeshrug:

This is why a lot of tv actors demand so much money and also why a lot of serious actors don’t do tv. You do a successful tv show and getting typecasted is the unfortunate risk you run.
And it's also the gift/curse of film franchise actors. They're thankful for the visibility, opportunity & $$$, but they're always trying to leave their film series due to the fear of typecasting

I understand his frustration but he did play the Braxton role very damn well. :manny:

But his role in Original Gangstas was :hhh:

Nah he was cool in OG, people just can’t shake seeing him as Braxton, which is ironically what this thread is about

No one was clowning his role till after Jamie Foxx Show came out and people heard Braxton played a gangsta then went back and watched it

It is indeed hard to take him seriously when you see him in other roles. I don’t even think it’s a conscious thing.
