You ain't gonna be wrestling no nikka on the ground in a crowded environment.

That is the stupidest thing you can do is take the fight to the ground with so many variables around you.

There are grappling techniques incorporated into most standing arts. Use those to rapidly and effectively disable your opponent.

Strikes and standing grapples are gonna be 90% of your self-defense portfolio.

BJJ is for sport.

Not every fight happens in a crowded environment.

In reality, you need skills in all phases and distances of combat. You should have striking as well as grappling skills.

The question is, does OP need to choose just one thing due to limited resources or can he train two or more arts at an MMA gym?

If he seriously had to pick one thing due to time constraints or budget constraints, I would recommend Muay Thai. Most people can't defend leg kicks and one good kick can put a lot of people down.

You sound like a BJJ hater in that post. As a whole BJJ is NOT for "sport" with few self-defense applications. There are some schools that are more sport-oriented nowadays but don't ever get it fukked up, BJJ came up in a NHB environment and that historical experience is what honed the art. A lot of schools still teach BJJ from a self-defense perspective.

Jiu Jitsu is not the gentle art some think it is especially if you ever had to use it with malicious intent in a street fight. It's even more fun if you don't look like you should know it.

Most fights are with the 8 limbs but man is it advantageous if you trip etc and end up on the bottom to not be a turtle stuck on its back

BJJ is useless outside of the MMA ring

In a real street fight Pablo Jr.'s friends are gonna try to stomp your ass out while you're busy trying to break his ligament in an arm bar - And regardless the lawsuit will be the same no matter if you break his jaw with a punch or his arm with a hold.

nikka @Mowgli talking about getting bytches in headlocks and shyt - Newsflash Sharkeesha's goof troupe is still gonna try and jump in and get you off of her.

Good luck defending against 3+ aggressors on the ground.

Or you could give a Muay Thai strike to the kidney then follow-up with a nice judo throw to create a good 10 feet of distance between you and the opponent - So that you can quickly observe your surroundings and determine if any friends or other idiots think about jumping in on the fun.

Again, not all fights are against multiple attackers.

I already laid out the rationale in my previous post, so I'll just state again that BJJ is not useless in self-defense situations, and it's plainly ignorant to say that it is.

The average BJJ practitioner doesn't have the speed to do this to the average person

Keep posting these "inspirational" Ronaldo/Gracie Family precious demos

And I'll maintain existence in the reality that when a 6'0 200lb dude goes up against another 6'0 200lb dude at the bar that the space for a takedown does not exist and the first "Bro" that tries something that stupid will get an elbow or knee to the eye socket

A general rule of thumb is for close quarters combat Krav Maga, hell even Wing Chun is a better bet.

We aren't wrestling on the mountain prairie nikka we in NYC in el barrio on the train and bumper to bumper

Wake up
