Some of you may know I did time in Brazil and stay in connect with my Brazilians family.
One of my homegirls said she voted for Bolsonaro because Haddad is a thief. She said Bolsonaro is honest and not like Trump
I don't consider myself leftist but Noam Chomsky brought up a good point in a lecture I listened to years ago. He half jokingly said people are too worried about corrupt leaders. What he meant is corrupt leaders are bad but they just want to enrich themselves and their cronies.
He said what you really should fear are many of the non-corrupt, because what they are after is not riches but power. Their 'clean slate' will mask a drive for power that can allow them to do much worse things than steal money. He mentioned most of the right wing dictators of the 20th century were hailed as 'honest' when they ascended to power. That's part of their nostalgia too.

I don’t even want to think about how bad it’s about to get there. If humanity isn’t wiped out by another world war, we’ll probably be studying some sort of holocaust sized genocide they staged in the classrooms some 20 years from now.
I’m ambivalent towards Bolsonaro. If I’m being honest there some things about him that I do like, but there are also some things that terrify me. I’m just hoping for the best.
I will say everybody in my dad’s family and a most of the men that I respect and look to as mentors in my personal life are proud supporters. These aren’t people that are white supremacists, they’re just people that are sick of the direction the left has taken the country. A lot of the people that I’ve talked to just want somebody to clean up the crime and corruption, and they’re willing to look passed Bolsonaro’s flaws if he can do that.

U can’t clean up the crime due to the inequality of the rich and poor. Brazil will always be corrupt no matter what because most are not held accountable, power corrupts. Now that the military is back I’m afraid for Brazilians

What exactly is the left's response to this election in Brazil? Considering an authoritarian regime now runs the country, how are those in opposition going to deal with this?
