Personally I think you lose whenever you say "back in the day." Things change. Technology has made everything easier and cheaper. The result is that the art is open to everyone now - anyone can record a song or produce without major $ barriers. That's a good thing but it had also flooded the market with lots of people who aren't good.

If Drake, Kendrick and Cole were really that amazing, we wouldn't be complaining about hip hop mediocrity because the bar would be set high. Problem is, Drake/Cole/Kendrick set the bar low as fukk and you have cats who wanna go even beneath that.
