Police in New York state say a man who ambushed firefighters had served 17 years for manslaughter in the death of his grandmother.

Yeah, he beat his grandmother to death with a hammer (!!!!). Was in jail 1980-1997, parole till 2006.

His mother and sister lived at the house with him, mother died a few months ago, sister is unaccounted for.
