1a-they planned to kill her or go on the run with her and it backfired and they indeed are eating berries to survive
1b-it backfired and they snuck into some abandoned home

2-they were smart enough to have a real backup and had planned to kill her and one of them steal her car so they can both go separate ways and had to both go together instead


for all we know they might have had help with someone breaking them out of prison to begin with - how the hell did they know the right way to get out???? shyt had to be mad researched.
