Yeah it’s a chemical imbalance

I used to think depression is an excuse and anyone can just snap out if it until it happened to my cousin who was always a happy go lucky person until depression

He told me It’s not something
you can control nor is it something specific in your life you are unhappy about that makes you depressed and suicidal

He said it makes you feel like everyday is the worst day ever and you can’t get out of it

Luckily he got the right help/meds or whatever and he’s still here but he tried to kill him self once

That sucks man, I always wake up with purpose but sad that a chemical depletion can kill anyone's motivation and will to live

All these old ass suicides :gucci:

Robin Williams...Kate Spades...Bourdain

You 61 already just ride out another 10-15 years.

Brehs battle for decades then off themselves at the end

RIP

Depression tends to worsen with age, so riding it out doesn't seem like a viable option to many of these people. And honestly, mentally it isn't. To them it looks like essentially prolonging their suffering into their twilight years when shyt like age-related illnesses and/or loss of mobility really starts to make shyt a nightmare mentally and physically.

Always loved his shows. They weren't really about food but primarily about the people and the culture. The food was the byproduct.

He always went to places other food shows never explored. I used to watch Vice's channel Munchies but gave up because 98% of the chefs are white. Bourdain went to Brazil and found Afro Brazilian grandmas who made the best food in the city and would go to their cribs. He'd go to cookouts and chill with regular folks. Too many food shows are elitist but he put the spotlight on people who deserves it just as much.

He was never on some Urban safari, exploitive stuff. He genuinely showed love and broke bread with people and they showed love back. He had charm and just blended in like he knew those people for years. Always broke the ice by getting everyone drinks:russ:

I learned a lot about other cultures through him. He inspired me to see the world. He always had demons though.

RIP:salute:

Whaaaaaaat!?! :mindblown:

I canot believe this. I've always had my doubts about dude, seen him for years and even when he smiled he never looked happy, I thought he just had that look. Without ever checking for grim I wouldn't have assumed he was going through it.

I'm legitimately sad to hear this. I've watched his shows with my family or on my own for years. He had a great personality, easily connected with folks and wasn't afraid to go anywhere. It wasn't just about the food or traveling to exotic locales, he actually interacted with the locals (a lot of them people of color) and let them tell their stories. One of very few chefs (TV personalities overall, really) that I'd genuinely call down to earth. And he walked that walk too, not just a white dude fronting like he cares. Damn shame.
