...”The piece focused on Bourdain’s “no white people” policy for the Houston episode of ‘Parts Unknown’...”

“Yesterday, PaperCity published a piece by writer Chris Baldwin that made note of a February profile in the New Yorker in which Bourdain said that he had “banned white people” from the Houston episode of CNN’s Parts Unknown.”

“...none of the city’s celebrity chefs even sniffed a bit of air time. It turns out most of them never had a chance to get on. Foodie power players such as Chris Shepherd, Bryan Caswell and Ronnie Killen were out from the moment Bourdain issued his “no white people” command.”

just now seeing this :mindblown: :wtf: stayed watching his show. Seem like a happy and go lucky person too.

Not really. While he was adventurous and driven by boundless curiosity about the various cultures he'd encounter, he often made a lot of comments that suggested he was not happy with the current state of society, especially the U.S..

Always loved his shows. They weren't really about food but primarily about the people and the culture. The food was the byproduct.

He always went to places other food shows never explored. I used to watch Vice's channel Munchies but gave up because 98% of the chefs are white. Bourdain went to Brazil and found Afro Brazilian grandmas who made the best food in the city and would go to their cribs. He'd go to cookouts and chill with regular folks. Too many food shows are elitist but he put the spotlight on people who deserves it just as much.

He was never on some Urban safari, exploitive stuff. He genuinely showed love and broke bread with people and they showed love back. He had charm and just blended in like he knew those people for years. Always broke the ice by getting everyone drinks:russ:

I learned a lot about other cultures through him. He inspired me to see the world. He always had demons though.

RIP:salute:

BTW I think dude is a bit of an a$$hole for committing suicide. At least when his daughter is 10 years old.

If you're a father, how can you imagine and not care that if you commit suicide, your 10 year old daughter will have to be woken up and told daddy killed himself. Why would you do that to your own kid?

It's a selfish ass thing to do as a parent.
You're saying this as someone with their sanity fully intact, and able to think logically. When you are dealing with deeplevels of depression.. like so deep that you're on the brink of suicide, the pain is so great that all that rational thinking (how could you do this to your family & friends, etc) goes out the window

Breh would just plop down at peoples houses in Somalia, Ethiopia, Lagos like nothing.

That's why the shyt hurts dude. Bourdain the type of dude that comes to the cookout unfased and fitting to break the dominoes out:wow:. I remember one episode, he went to some place where there was bombings going off and he didn't give one damn at all. Most hosts would be on some scrambling shyt, but he was like "you gotta go gotta go".

From my social media account:

I got my degree in psychology and worked in the field for a year post collegiate until I realized it was even too depressing for me.
What you guys don't get about people with wealth and suicide is that they've reached the Apex. Imagine, someone poor and deppressed... They possess hope that money can change everything, that wealth will make them happy. What happens when you've achieved wealth and you're still depressed, that my friends is described as absolute rock-bottom. Where not even money can answer your prayers of happiness. Oblivion
That would be a scary place to be

Eastside of that Motor
I always had the feeling he was bored with life a la Hunter S Thompson. His whole existence was traveling and I can see how after traveling the world it could get old. Plus he was a heavy drinker. Wealth don't bring you mental health. RIP
