I’ve been a fan since No Reservations. He was definitely an inspiration for me. he was able to capture the humanity of wherever he taped. It was never a corny, soulless travel show...he made you feel like you were eavesdropping on a casual cultural exchange. His writing and show monologues hinted at his dark, cynical perspective...I wouldn’t have guessed it ran this deep. RIP
Endless travel is definitely not a fairytale like it may seem. The more you discover about other cultures, the more reference you have to criticize your own. I always comeback from a new place I enjoy like
“why can’t the USA be more like this place” add that to the loneliness of hotels and new cities and dealing with trying to have a normal social life back home.
