The fact Democrats took off starving people and RFD’s for the February round of negotiations is a win. It’s not a sexy win but if you look at this as rounds of negotiations they won this round and are set to win the next one.

This whole thing was a short term bill full of long term poison pills designed to cause republicans political pain if they have to do this again in February.

If the Democrats gave cash payments ie., reparations for the enslavement of FBA/FREEDMAN in the USA, these Democrats would not be in the position of bowing down to the Republicans.

It's funny how these Democrats talk mad shyt with their full chest about what they are not going to do for FBAs but back down to everybody else....now look at these clowns:

What blame are you speaking of?

We are mad they are caving now when they have ALL THE LEVERAGE, not that this happened to begin with.
It seems that people are putting more blame on the Dems for folding than the actual problem of the administration itself.

What leverage do they have? How long do you think they would be able to hold out? You think Republicans were going to negotiate any of their terms? In the past maybe.

This is the package:

- CR thru Jan 30
- A vote on a ACA bill by a December, on a DEM bill
- Minibus WHICH INCLUDES reversal of shutdown RIFs and back pay and protections against them happening in the future

PLUS SNAP is funded through the fiscal year 26. The CR not only reverses the RIFs since Oct. 1 but also bars future RIFs for the duration of the CR (Jan 30). A source also notes that if this CR is extended by another CR, the RIF ban would also be extended.

The White House was pushing against the latter because it does not want to give up the ability to RIF or starve people.

I also don’t think this deal happens if Jackson didn’t FF the legal process to compel Trump to distribute SNAP. Though in a vacuum that would have only been a short term solution because once the funding ended there wouldn‘t be a way to force him to fund it. Once that is decided and they fund it for a year. Trump can’t starve people until 2027.

I get that. It is disappointing I agree. I just don’t think they have the leverage at the moment, because the other side could care less how long the government is shutdown
This is where I’m at. Being a federal worker with savings I could have rode this out for the rest of the year. Not everyone can do that. Most can’t actually. I know co workers with kids who have had to go to food pantries. You dealing with people that by the elimination of USAID have killed over 500,000 people already. Mostly kids. During Covid, people died unnecessarily because Trump didn’t take it seriously at first. They don’t care who dies. I mean because Dems have a conscience in comparison to Rs there really is no win with this.

Just out of curiosity, did you think the Dems should have folded 40 days ago and saved everyone the stress of a shutdown?

If not, then :francis:

One thing I will say… is the Republican playbook is undefeated. A majority of the blame going to the Dems in this thread I see. Not saying they are without fault, but we wouldn’t be in this mess in the first place had America not voted the way they voted. Unfortunately it’s going to be a tough 3 more years.
So you’re blaming America instead of the democrats :gucci:
