Mary Trump says her uncle will go 'farther than you can possibly imagine' to hold onto power if he loses the election as he's afraid of prosecution

  • Mary Trump said that Americans should take Donald Trump's suggestion he might not accept the election result seriously.

  • Speaking at a virtual fundraiser Thursday, when asked how far she believes her uncle would be willing to go to remain in the White House, she replied, "farther than you can possibly imagine," reported the Huffington Post.

  • Mary Trump has emerged as a vocal critic of her uncle, claiming that a scarred childhood has left him with a series of pathological personality traits.

  • Her warning came as President Trump on Wednesday repeatedly refused to confirm that he would accept the result of the election and stirred baseless fears of electoral fraud.

Mary Trump, the niece of President Donald Trump, said her uncle would go "farther than you can possibly imagine" to cling onto power if he loses the presidential election.

Mary Trump has emerged as a vocal critic of her uncle, in a recent memoir alleging that a damaged childhood has left him with pathological personality traits.
At a virtual fundraiser for LPAC, an organization dedicated to electing LGBT women to political office, she addressed the president's repeated refusal to commit to a peaceful transition of power and to accept the election result regardless of the outcome.

Asked how far she thinks her uncle would be willing to go to remain in the White House, reported the Huffington Post, she replied, "Farther than you can possibly imagine."

She continued that the president knows that he faces potential prosecution for tax fraud and obstruction of justice if he leaves office. There are people close to him benefitting from his presidency determined not to allow him to lose, she warned.

"He's cheating when he tells people that mail-in ballots are fraudulent somehow. He's cheating when he started calling into question the legitimacy of the election before a vote was even cast. He's cheating when he says if Joe Biden wins, it's rigged…. He's also cheating when he tells people if we don't get the results on Nov. 3 ― which, by the way, during the pandemic would be ridiculous ― if we have to wait, that it's also rigged, somehow," Mary Trump said.

"We need to be clear about what we're potentially facing here," she added.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Mary Trump's claim.

Previously, the White House rejected her book's claims, which the family unsuccessfully attempted to block from publication. A spokesperson said that Mary Trump is motivated by financial self-interest.

At the fundraiser Thursday, Mary Trump, an out lesbian, also spoke about her uncle's animosity towards minorities, and said he is "particularly vicious" about transgender people.

She said: "His lack of caring, his discomfort with difference, and his knowing that being cruel really plays well with the only people left who support him ― it's a trifecta, unfortunately."
