That's unfair to the player because what if it's another situation like Luka in where the player doesn't want to be traded, but it's up to the teams discretion?

It's called having a competitive advantage in wanting to keep the player that you drafted and developed. Now with that being said, the team should get some cap relief because of it, which I'd agree with.
Technically Luka wouldn't have qualified since Atlanta drafted him.

im always curious WHY people care how seriously players take their jobs.....

if youre 6'8 with a 40in vert...and have always been the best at ball no matter where you were or how seriously you take it...

....if someone is going to give you $200M to do it...you'd take it too....
i know it pisses people off that these guys dont live and breathe their jobs....and it is a job...no matter how much they're paid

those guys are human
lets be honest all of us at one time or another have half-assed it at work....they're doing the same thing....

everyone dont have the drive of kobe or jordan or lebron....those guys live and breathe basketball....guys like PG...Harden...Embiid...those guys just dont

Because money brings expectations to perform regardless of the industry that you work in.

Because

1. Technically they pay their salaries as fans who pay for tickets, merch and TV.

2. These players eat up money from the team so the team can’t invest that same money in other brehs that deserve it more.

3. They fukk up people’s bets.

4. I could go on, but I think most people already know the mad reasons.

Just like any other job, people would be mad if a highly paid individual, who works for a business that offers an expensive service delivers a wack product. Dudes get mad at burger joints if their smash burger ain’t properly smashed and you think they won’t be mad if a 50m player that charges 100s for tv, 100s for tickets, and 100s for merch treats his job like a joke? :patrice:

It’s more about the team, if he was in a solo sport like tennis, running or something. Nobody would care

The money is so massive now that I think it's more than fair to have non-guaranteed contracts or a way to cut guys.

When LeBron signed with Miami, he got 6/$110 million. Jaden McDaniels got 5/$131 million last year; OG got 5/$212 million; Scottie Barnes signed 5/$225 million.

How do you tell a 22-23 year to improve or hold them accountable for anything when they're getting generational wealth right after they're legally allowed to buy alcohol?

It is more than fair to blast incompetent management when they give out lousy contracts.

At a minimum, the Amnesty Clause should be brought back.

Of course.
It's also just a completely different system and structure. The arbitration system in baseball is a joke and doesn't allow relevant players to hit free agency until they're 28/29/30 etc. The early extensions to buy out arb years like Acuna and Tatis signed are the exception and even they left a lot of money on the table securing what they could (which is why Soto turned down that kind of offer from Washington back in 2022)
