Kaepernick says he has received death threats

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Colin Kaepernicksays he has received death threats through social media and other avenues since he began to protest during the national anthem last month.

Kaepernick said Tuesday he has not alerted San Francisco 49ers team security about the threats and that he understood he might be threatened once he began his protest over racial oppression and police brutality in the United States.

"To me, if something like that were going to happen, you've proved my point," he said. "It would be loud and clear for everyone why it happened. That would move this movement forward at a greater speed than what it is even now. Granted, I don't want that to happen. But that's the realization of what could happen."

Kaepernick's protest during the anthem became public in August when he sat during the anthem before a preseason game against Green Bay and later explained his reasoning. He has since kneeled before the Niners' past three games. The kneeling is meant to show more respect for veterans.

Kaepernick has been joined by several other NFL players, U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe and scores of high school and college players.

It has not received universal support, however, and he said he was the target of racial slurs and other insults before the game Sunday at Carolina.

"There's a lot of racism in this country disguised as patriotism and people want to take everything back to the flag but that's not what we're talking about," he said. "We're talking about racial discrimination, inequalities and injustices that happen across the nation."

Kaepernick spoke to one of those cases Tuesday, the shooting of an unarmed black man in Tulsa, Oklahoma, last week. Police video shows 40-year-old Terence Crutcher walking away from the officers and toward his SUV on Friday with his hands in the air. He then approaches the driver's side of his vehicle, where an officer shocks him with a stun gun and another fatally shoots him.

Officers had been called to the scene to respond to a report of a stalled vehicle.

The officer who shot Crutcher, Betty Shelby, was placed on paid leave.

"His car was broken down, he was looking for help and he got murdered," Kaepernick said. "That's a perfect example of what this is about. I think it will be very telling what happens with the officers that killed him because everybody's eyes will be on this."

Kaepernick also gave more details about his plans to donate $1 million to organizations supporting his cause of racial equality. He said he has people currently vetting potential charities to determine the proper ones to donate to and will launch a website detailing his donations and how the money is spent.

He plans to give away $100,000 a month for the next 10 months.

"I want to make sure that not only am I transparent about what I'm doing but these organizations are transparent about where the money is going as well," he said.
Is there video of this interview?

Kap can sit at the table now :salute:

Why try to divide in the first place? Some of the most vocal and militant black people would be called out of their names because they are mixed, but they make noise and do good.

If someone wants to be considered black and they have any sort of legit claim at all I say cone one in.

Don't worry. The black people who do not want to be down will separate themselves. No need to try to weed them out.

Bottom line: we need everyone who is down, no time to put up barriers. This brother is shaking the world up right now.

I'm sure there's a lot of stuff out there that doesn't simply line NFL pockets.

One can hope that there's a lot that doesn't go into their wallets. Consolidation of wealth is one of the biggest problems this country has. It's a huge reason why corruption runs so rampant and peoples civil liberties are eroding on a daily basis. That much money allows more influence in the wrong direction. Props to Kaep for donating this extra cash to people who need it.

Probably was getting them before all of this.....:mjpls:

He was the media just asked him that shyt. As I explained before kap was most likely getting them when he took the starting spot from Alex smith at QB.

Also the 49ers kick returner who fumbled the ball in the playoffs got death threats. So you know Kap got them when he lost in the superbowl and the NFC championship game.

Black QBs and black head coaches always and I mean always get death threats. shyt Culpepper got so many death threats and hate mail his head coach had to call the shyt out in a press conference.

At Jacksonville Leftwhich was getting so many death threats the jaguars had to call up the FBI.

The media just doesnt want to acknowledge that shyt. Until something like this happens......but best believe black athletes and coaches get death threats.

Like we won't forget that shyt with Lebron coming back to Cleveland in 2010 - 2011 and security everywhere cause folks were afraid some dude was gonna pull a Monica seles on Lebron. Cause folks were talking about harming his ass the whole week before he came to town.

This like saying Obama got some hate mail and death threats cause he talked about racism in the US. Well he was actually getting hate mail and death threats when he became the president.
