Netflix shows shows/movies do trend organically, but keep in mind that Netflix is the one planting the seeds and tending the garden. A company that big us using all kinds of Miracle Gro an minerals

You can see a few of the surface ways they tend the garden. Having multiple title pictures for shows/movies for example. Squid Game will have 4 different pics in the hopes that one of them will catch your eye like

that thread has nothing to do with squid game becoming a phenomenon
buzzed and twitter amplify the content to new heights and got the people to "care" about the content. Netflix knows this and positions their content and social media to come out to create "trends"
t didn't, film room saw it first because they were interested in Korean shows. They're just early adopters, they would've watched it regardless. they needed the average netlfix consumer to watch it when they wouldn't have before.
