I'd be fine with him leaving AEW but dude is such an attention seeking carny that he's probably doing this for a storyline on his reality show. I can see him in the Rumble to try to get a big deal with either company but I think he stays in AEW 
It is probably just a case of Cody wanting to have a differently structured contract than just extending the original deal he made so he and Khan are still in the negotiating phase of things.
I doubt Cody would leave considering there is no other place on the planet that would give him the creative control he currently has as well as employ his wife in roles she isn't qualified to be in.

On the other hand it makes no sense to push him or even worse, put a belt on him, if he can't commit to the business enough to sign a piece of paper. Which they did anyway so idk
