They believe any type of instability regarding the regime opens the door to an invasion. The paranoia is understandable considering Ethiopia is on Ertirean land and Ethiopia has grown in power and influence around the world.

Also I think a lot of older Eritreans fukk with him because of his background with the EPLF and they respect his views on self-reliance. There's a big Eritrean population in Dallas, most of them view him as a hero who lives modestly compared to other presidents and someone, despite his strong hand towards the media, has the betterment of his people as his main goal.

Yeah my best friend is Eritrean so we’ve definitely had our back and forth moments. I do understand the paranoia, but it’s been at the detriment of the people imo.

Plus the cult of personality surrounding Isaias is pretty crazy. You’d think he was Thomas Sankara the way he’s so glowingly spoke of. For all the wrongdoings of the different governments during the Eritrean revolution, can anyone sit here and say the Afewerki regime has no Eritrean blood on its hands?

I think what’s missed is that when Ethiopian leadership (starting with Selassie) ruined the country, Eritreans leaned on their colonial past and made themselves out to be the other instead of fighting alongside the other Ethiopians suffering from the same bullshyt. The federation between the monarchy and Eritrea should’ve been implemented throughout the country and should’ve brought the country to a new level of advancement.

Oh well, I just hope we finally squash this stupid shyt and work together again.

Hopefully this means sovereign wealth funds pulling wealth from the West, heavy infrastructure establishment, and a more robust welfare state focused on economic development for the masses.

:wtf:

What countries were helping Egypt surround Ethiopia? And Egypt was trying to invade Ethiopia?

What? You haven't been keeping up with the Nile Valley dam situation?:dwillhuh:

Anyways Eritrea, Somalia and Sudan in some ways have beef with Ethiopia especially the first two. There have been conspiracy that Egypt could train ethnic groups who HATE the Ethio govt in Eritrea to destabilize Ethiopia. They can also use the three countries listed as invasion launching points.

way overdue. both countries are on the up in my opinion. don't get it twisted, afwerki is loved by the majority of eritreans.
Eritrea is not on the up and there is no real way to evaluate public opinion in Eritrea itself for obvious reasons. What is visible though is dude is a kleptocrat who has assumed all semblance of power and state institutions in the country. The intense propaganda they employ online and message control they employ on their diaspora reminds me of Gaddafi’s Libya. Unlike Gaddafi’s Libya, Eritrea has no oil. There is no way I can be convinced that a country where hundreds of thousands have fled through brutal desert passage through Sudan, is in a good state.

Their war with Ethiopia has always been presented as the raisin d’état for all of this and I wonder how they plan to pivot if Ethiopia does indeed withdraw their troops.

Lol, Egypt and Saudi Arabia been sabotaging Ethiopia for years. A lot of the early support for Eritrean independence came directly from Egypt.

Egypt has always been hell bent on maintaining the full control of the Nike Valley they inherited as a British colony because of paranoia of losing too much Nile water. Moreover, the hydroelectric potential of Ethiopia is more than enough to make it the new major player in the region once it’s been fully harnessed. For the record, Ethiopia’s dam project doesn’t at all threaten Egypt’s share of Nike water. On the surface it looks ok but this has been a battle of hegemony going back to the Pharaohs and their fear of Ethiopia blocking the Nile further downstream.

Them nikkaz finna be our son tho. :russ:

Y’all are putting the cart before the horse, Ethiopia and Eritrea are not uniting, nor does the naval announcement indicate that.

They far more likely envision Djibouti and Berbera as the docking posts for the future navy.

This STILL can defer Egypt.

I know I didn't state anything about uniting.
