Coloring book was trash tho. He'll get a rap nominee only to loose to drake.

I'm a well known drake stan and I see chance winning it over drake (if their both in that category)

But I see chance in the overall album of the year category...not drake...Adele will probably win that though...or some country or folk shyt none of are really aware of

Obviously blonde woulda been in it had Frank cared enough to enter. No space for chance.

What does selling records mean

Hes still super popular and No Problems is a hit song
He is super popular, but something about winning a Grammy, being on the cover of magazines, and blatantly in the mainstream without a single record sold is hilarious to me. I'm sure in a few years it'll be the norm, but it's strange right now imo

Chance is not winning that Grammy or any over Drake.
I think Chance is a record industry "experiment" that has worked out extremely well. He skipped the line and jumped right into the mainstream with VERY little grind. A Grammy might be the perfect way to validate the success of that business model.

Drake can definitely win, and he very well might. But I think Chance winning would be a BIG win for the industry, and allow those types of "success stories" to be validated by more traditional institutions like the Grammys.

It seems like with Chance, its all management. The dude is crazy talented and kids love him, but he was given the exposure because of connections and management. He was spoon-fed opportunities that others grind for years and years to get, and he capitalized on them nicely

Y'all nikkas need to grow up with ya fantasies and conspiracies. Chance blew up off the strength of two solid mixtapes. He's an indie artist, signed to no label.

Drake on the other hand... :usure:

Stop it. Acid Rap was an overnight success. He went from literal obscurity to taking pics with Madonna, being written up in major media outlets (not just rap media btw) and was all over MTV. I'm not detracting from his skills and ability to connect with his fanbase, because that's all him, but there is no precedent to that level of overnight success.

Even Drake had to bubble from Comeback Season to So Far Gone, doing guest verses, mini-tours etc. Wiz had to drop tons of mixtapes to get to the point where he took off. Kendrick gradually gained exposure. It's like a switch was flicked, Chance (who?) drops a mixtape and is suddenly a superstar. Not even Odd Future blew that fast, it still took a few tapes and controversial videos/performances.

The industry is shifting and trying new things, and I don't blame them honestly...

Drake had big budget music vids with trey songs before he was known(as a rapper)... he had no struggle.

You old nikkas just do t understand the power of the internet generation.

Its well documented that Drake had industry connects. His father, his uncle, Jas Prince, Degrassi etc. He still was not an overnight success tho. Look at the film industry for example, there's the actors that grind on Broadway and theatre, or on crap TV shows until they get a big break, or maybe they know someone and get a shortcut or two, and then there's the ones who get the buy-in from their management immediately and get a "vehicle" project thats centered around making them a household name. The industry has immediate faith in their star potential and creates avenues for them specifically.

Acid Rap was Chance's vehicle. He could've ruined it if it wasn't dope, and if he didn't know how to carry himself in the media and be likeable, but he did very well. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it, I'm saying he didn't have to work as hard, plain and simple

This all makes sense but I'm not seeing them giving a Grammy to Coloring Book over Views with the success it had despite being a lukewarm album. Maybe in a lesser rap category like Best Rap Peformance since Drake's album was so R&B/hybrid heavy but not Rap AOTY or SOTY.
