Its not strange that Google does this. They have so much power, but also other ventures, like drones and stuff. Better they buss a move like this that way they are able to divy up priorities, have one parent company overseeing things, and in the eyes of the public be able to dissociate everything that is done under alphabet because it just won't be Google no more

I dont see android as a company .. to me its just a OS and because they name each version after a piece of candy from A-Z .. i dont see it as the "A"

Android will be mobile software maker and Nexus is hardware. It would be silly to NOT make it the A. Its prolly their biggest source of brand recognition outside of the search engine. Android isn't just some software its multiple teams of people working on OS for multiple phones. It already kinda is a company unto itsself.
