Low voter turnout, especially among minorities, favors Republicans. This is just a basic political fact.

Most southern states are red states. If every minority voted, the Republican candidate may still get the electoral votes for said state....

Don't see your point there....

Is he lying tho? They stay copping pleas for their region. Forget all the stuff they did to us...I'm go back to where my grandpops ran from because of lower taxes...smh, wheres the integrity. @88m3
My dad was not raised in the South but he recalled a "visit" to relatives in Mississippi as a kid.

African-Americans were in line at some store, and a white man stepped ahead of them in line. My father stepped back in front of him, reminding him that they were there first.

My great-aunt snatched him back, quick, with "the look" that said "be quiet."
The white man shot a look at them, like they were crazy.

He didn't understand what was going on, and no one ever explained it after the fact.

Ten years ago, when he went to Laurel, MS for his aunt's funeral, he returned shell-shocked. To him, the local black people were still "afraid." Subservient. Apart. He keeps telling us "they live in another time, down there."

if you look at the original 13th Amendment which had 20 sections.

This is what it states:

"SECTION 12 – The traffic in Slaves with Africa is hereby forever prohibited on pain of death and the forfeiture of all the rights and property of persons engaged therein; and the descendants of Africans shall not be citizens."

Of course today they now show only 2 sections of the amendment.

So you have to ask yourself why we are the only group of people that has to get approval from the government every 25 years for the right to vote.

The 'refugee' remark was a reference to Hurricane Katrina when the media proclaimed the victims as such instead of there nationality. So in other words we don't actually have a proper citizenship or birthright that is recognized by the government which is based off the original 13th amendment.

I can get deeper but you can do your own research on this and connect the dots.

Following this conversation barely, and having been all over the South, I can definitively state that the South is clearly more racist than the West Coast and Northeast. People are more overt with than racism where people up north are covert about it. That's true. But the South (along with a couple spot in the Midwest) also has the most egregious examples of partisan gerrymandering, some of the worst and most racially selective prosecutors in the country (Louisiana might be the worst), and many of the people have internalized racist views that they don't even realize are racist. I'm not about to sit here and pretend that the South is still in the days of, "Watch out ******, the klan is getting bigger," but I'm also not going to pretend that it isn't overall the worst offender of racial prejudice.

With that said, places like Charlotte are on the rise and are, or will be great places for people of color. So the South has this weird dichotomy of having the most opportunities for people of color in many instances, but also being far from progressive-minded in many instances. If you're someone of color, you'd be better off in Charlotte or Nashville than you'd be in Boston in many instances.

Having had lived in MS for 8 months and about the same time in Boston. I found them to be different but not that different when it comes to racial relations. For instance the immigrant community gets treated like absolute shyt in both areas. But man, MS is on some OTHER shyt. It's basically travelling back in time in MA people are cool once you get to know them but the majority or Ma$$holes...seriously. I think everyone should visit MS once in their lives to experience, MS. Especially if you are from the north. ESPECIALLY. It shocked the hell outta me. I was in the Tupelo area for a extended period of time. It is actually quite hard to explain but its like there is a bubble up in the area and time just stopped.

:why: are people talking about the entire southern portion of the country like it's all one big homogenous culturally contiguous entity? People acting like Tampa, FL and Ropea******, MS are the same thing. :snoop:

Just deal with the fact that your part of world is completely irrelevant to the world as a whole until it's time to vote.

That's no reflection on who you are personally.
