The VRA does not guarentee African Americans a right to vote. That is clear and we agree on that
If you actually read what I posted before I said that the VRA coincides with the 15th amendment.
Congress is trying to take away the VRA that simply implies that the legislation will be handled on a state level.
States can make up whatever can a voting laws the see fit without the use of federal intervention.
Which is why I implied that the VRA has to be renewed every 25 years for our rights to vote. This is to counter any state legislation that disenfranchises African American voters.

My dad was not raised in the South but he recalled a "visit" to relatives in Mississippi as a kid.
African-Americans were in line at some store, and a white man stepped ahead of them in line. My father stepped back in front of him, reminding him that they were there first.
My great-aunt snatched him back, quick, with "the look" that said "be quiet."
The white man shot a look at them, like they were crazy.
He didn't understand what was going on, and no one ever explained it after the fact.
Ten years ago, when he went to Laurel, MS for his aunt's funeral, he returned shell-shocked. To him, the local black people were still "afraid." Subservient. Apart. He keeps telling us "they live in another time, down there."
So, when was your father's initial visit?

All these blanket statement about "the south" reek of sheltered stupidity because it's based on a perception of the worst possible examples, such as what you might find in backwoods small town areas of Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana and applied to the entire country below the mason-dixon line.
Where I grew up in Hampton Roads, VA there wasn't some big problem of racist treatment toward black people, lol. Black people were the majority in my city and a white person calling someone a ****** would have been a fukking death wish. I live in Jax now and there's all different races of people here that get along fine and the mayor is black.
I'd imagine it's the same as in Richmond, NOVA, Louisville, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, New Orleans, Nashville, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Tampa, Orlando, Miami, etc.
The shyt is dumb because if racism was so bad in those areas, black people wouldn't be flocking to them.
And let's not act like the coasts and up north are racism free, lest we bring up sundown towns, stop and frisk, Amadou Diallo, Sean Bell, Rodney King, Abner Louima, the Central Park 5, hate crimes in Boston, Staten Island, and Howard Beach, the new age klan that is the LAPD, etc.
