This is what kills me. He started doing media shyt and wasn't bad at it. He could have kept doing that, or simply become a DC somewhere. Because that's his real love: coaching defense. Instead he took this job and let his weird girlfriend get some control over media/PR shyt, and in the end it's all a fukking mess.

. The funny thing is that it's very hard to deny the only reason any of this worked was the tuck rule. Remove that and Belichick likely bombs out after 5-6 years in New England and just becomes a defensive coordinator again.

I don't think it was only about Brady in the early years. I think what it was about was they had good players that were brought in by Parcells, who was a better evaluator of talent than Belichick. A lot of them had already been to the Super Bowl as well (McGinest, Bruschi, Law, Milloy). They set the standard and the tone, along with some other guys who were brought in by Belichick (Harrison, Seymour, Vrabel).

But to keep that going, and once the defense got worse, Brady being Brady was what kept things going.

Parcells was involved in several rebuilds: Giants, Pats, Jets and Cowboys.

All four were struggling and all four became good/respectable with Coach Parcells. I think Belichick was a little better "in game" but Parcells was wayyyyy better at talent evaluation. His repeated success proved it wasn't a fluke. If not for the Romo botched snap in '06, he probably drags that Cowboys team to the SB....they already beat the Colts earlier that year. Damn sure don't get embarrassed by the Giants in '07 if he was there.

Belichick was elite as a DC. Great HC but sucked as a GM. Brady being Brady and Beli's defensive mind allowed that Pats dynasty to last longer than it would have otherwise.
