its not totally implausible. i think it mostly just depends on birth rates. i would guess deeply religious people are more likely to have a bunch of children and less religious or not religious people are more likely to have fewer.

you can actually see it playing out with jewish americans now. orthodox jews have way, way more children and jewish americans are becoming more religious in general as a result
