The thing never had any way of contacting anyone other than text messages based on a spotty internet connection with the main surface ship. For all we know they could have surfaced days ago but without a connection to the main ship, no one would know.
Former Titan submersible passenger who took 4 dives in it, including to the Titanic, said communication with the surface ship was lost 'every single time'
Mike Reiss said on one dive he took in OceanGate's Titan submersible they returned to the surface as soon as they lost communication.
