Is the BAPE store really cash only now? I find that kinda hard to believe only because its a big tourist spot. Maybe for 'locals' they say it's cash only and if that's the case they could face a discrimination lawsuit. Either way that's crazy if they got rid of cards there.

regardless there are a lot of kids getting money in NY right now. not that its been any different. i don't see how these kids don't stay getting caught though. its gotta be harder now more than ever. some of them do and for others its a matter of time i guess

How do nikkas be getting scammed, I live in BK and use my debit card at Chase Bank, Drug Stores, Family dollar and National Fast food chains and I never got scammed :dwillhuh: DO y'all nikkas be using y'all debit cards at those ATM's at Chinese and bodega spots :usure:

theres a lot of different ways. most of the kids you see are getting "work" from someone else who is ultimately getting huge data dumps from someone else who gets it from the darkweb. then they'll test the card online and if it comes back decent they'll make up a pressie of it. others take it up a notch and harvest / share the data amongst themselves by installing skimmers on ATMs or running bogus online consignment stores selling carded clothes...only to collect more card numbers :demonic:

I was at the 86th street trainstation in manhattan before thanksgiving and someone had installed a skimmer on the shyt. I was able to pull it off. but I didn't wanna miss my train so I didn't tell the attendant. I tried to call 311 but it was such a pain in the ass I got frustrated and hung up. If you're anywhere in the city... anywhere... and you insert your card you should jiggle the thing first to make sure it doesn't come right off. and try to use cash as much as possible especially at bars and restaurants where you'd normally be leaving your card with the server or waitress. if you have a chip in your card for the most part you are good now though

:ehh:

I'm still not convinced.

How the hell you get:

  • Numerous high profile features
  • Radio spins in your own city (cause he fasho was not getting spins anywhere else...)
  • XXL freshman feature
  • ADIDAS sponsorship
And still sell less than 10,000 copies on your debut album?

Troy did less than 5k first week, with only 30 of those sales actually being physical copies being purchased. That's Kreayshawn level bad....

All your post really told me is that someone was really trying to get the masses to like Troy. Be it that Troy is independent and he's bankrolling his own career, or he's got some sort of label backing him, but his musical career has certainly been a failure thus far.
What are you arguing though? What we telling you is Troy has money he's a successful local independent rapper. Albums are $10 a pop, singles are $1.29, he only has a distribution deal with probably a good split, a club hosting/show for him can run you $5,000-$10,000.

Drill rappers like 600 Breezy are getting show money he don't sell records.

Rappers like Ka, Roc Marciano, Westside Gunn and Conway who rap for old Rikers Island-type nikkas and backpackers don't sell records yet they getting shows and making money.

Have you seen numbers for other indy artists?

Freddie Gibbs gets a lot of love on here especially that Piñata album produced by Madlib. Gibbs also has an Adidas deal, songs been in video games, been on mags, high profile features he only did 9,000 first week off a critically acclaimed album.

Raury been on movies and videogame soundtracks, American Eagle endorsement, XXL Freshman cover, multi genre artist compared to Andre 3000, he only sold 750 copies of his album first week.

My accounts have been compromised a few times now

I check my online banking though everyday for all my accounts

All my cards have chips now but in some stores (like Dunkin' Donuts lol) the chip reader don't work

I don't believe Troy Ave. is either a successful independent local artist, neither is he caking off of rap like that. I don't understand why that narrative is being pushed given that we now know that he used to have a video on TV back in 05 or 06 as well. That's 10 years in the game to drop an album that sold 5k first week.

Not only that, but Troy's sudden ascension onto the rap scene is extremely suspicious. Given that his Bricks in my Backpack mixtape series only garnered moderate praise, I don't believe his hype was being built organically. Rather he must have bankrolled all that radio play, high profile features, and other media coverage, which is expensive, and will certainly not be recouped by a wavering musical career.

Also you made poor comparisons.

Ask 600Breezy how much he's spent on radio play and promotion. Bet you he says rap doesn't pay the bills as well.

Ask KA if he's ever paid a Rick Ross feature. Also, ask him if rapping is his day job.

You said SUCCESSFUL. Compare Troy Ave. to Tech N9ne, Mozzy, Nipsey Hussle. ACTUAL independent rappers that can say they're successful without a shadow of a doubt.:stopitslime:

Is he making millions of his music? No, but he's making enough to buy modest houses, cars, etc and live a decent lifestyle. Success is relative. For NY indie rappers he's probably not getting the shows that Dave East was getting before he signed to Def Jam. He's definitely not seeing the sales/shows that Joey does but I think Joey is the biggest indie rapper in the city by far since he sold 300,000.

600 Breezy is doing shows in Canada breh right now making money.

I made poor examples? Freddie Gibbs and Raury are poor examples? There's dozens of other artists that can be named.

How about Smoke DZA another indy NY rapper who been at this for years.

I don't even think Nipsey's sold any albums he's just done the $100 mixtape with the first 1,000 copies thing.

You are assuming Ave paid Ross for the feature. Ave is cool with Meek and Ross. He's cool with T.I. who wanted to sign him to Grand Hustle. He's cool with Fab and Cam. Guess who went to see him in the hospital? 50 Cent. You are assuming he's getting raped with feature prices/can't afford them. Networking is a huge part of the Indy game as it is in real life.

So because he's not as successful as Tech N9ne and Nipsey Hussle it means he's not successful?

This is not a contest :heh:
