What is different about last night's strikes and 2017 strike is that they are against the Syrian government. There are several different factions of this war. The outrage and fear of this new offensive is that now this is direct campaign against Syrian govt who is allied with Russia. Up til now thecoalition forces have been fighting along side SDF only against ISIL/ISIS

well first of all, the U.S., France, and the UK launched attacks. So it wasn't just the U.S. let's clear that up

secondly, my argument you quoted was pretty blunt: we've been bombing syria for years, drone strikes, air strikes, literally thousands of bombs.
