Giving them old ass weapons was actually a great plan/deal.
We know that Vlad doesn’t want Ukraine with NATO but lets play devils advocate and say that Putin conquers Ukraine.. what would be the point of NATO if allies aren’t protected under the treaty by it’s main players? (The US by far is the most well equipped of all the military forces in NATO just based off budget alone).
NATO was the result of WW2 to help prevent another WW2.
And if/when Ukraine is captured, what do you think happens to those people and the surrounding NATO countries that are around Ukraine? Putin uses the same narrative to attack them as well most likely.

Ukraine won't accept giving up these parts of the country. Too many people have died defending the region and there are too many Ukrainians still living there. It would be political suicide and maybe even a bullseye on their heads if they fold. Trump doesn't care either way as long as he can maintain his relationship with Putin.
