To add on, both Paul and McConnell represent Kentucky. Between the tariffs and Canadians boycotting us, I'm pretty sure Kentucky bourbon makers are definitely losing a significant amount of sales and they've probably been in both of their ears.
Paul's also one of those so-called "libertarian" type of Republicans, so opposing tariffs is at least ideologically consistent for him.
McConnell's definitely trying to salvage his legacy. With how much he enabled and shielded Trump politically, it seems appropriate for Trump to be the one destroying his legacy. He's going to end up being the American Franz von Papen in history books.
