We'll see how this plays out.

German Arms Mfrs are notoriously litigious when it comes to these contracts. (Perun on YT has a great channel on defense spending, and them specifically)

And does the UK have the workforce to up their game? Since they sent all the foreigners back to their country, even some of the Jamaicans there that rebuilt them after WW2....smh

And if Putin is playing cat and mouse with nearby countries today, the things they're allocating funds for, won't even be out of the planning stages.

The timeline
  • Trump put them on notice in 2016. He put them on notice about the US and Russia, and they needed to spend more on defense. *crickets*
  • Putin invades Ukraine in 2022
  • It's 2025
  • Budgets might get approved and something spent in 2026-2027. (a decade later)
  • How long to manufacture?
  • How long to ship and put stuff in place?
This is on top of continental Europe still buying Russian Gas....(They coulda spent 2.4Trillion* building out solar in North Africa, but "political instability")

*DesertTec was/is supposed to cost 400B to supply 15% of the EU's power by 2050.

These aren't serious people, none of them. Putin, Trump, the EU/NATO, the UK...

Actually you’re totally right and I meant to go back to fix that.

Just went back to watch the meet Kevin video.

That guy makes surface level takes on just about everything he covers. His biggest mistake in that video is the part where he called it a proxy war. People toss that phrase around too easily.

A true proxy war is one where two larger nations support two smaller nations to fight on their behalf. A better example would be the houthis (supported by Iran) fighting against the yemini government (supported by Saudi Arabia).

It takes 2 years to take a man from civilian to able to function as soldier within a military let alone be fully competent, and thats within the most battle tested military on the planet (ours). That doesnt include buying platforms and building the infrastructure required to support those platforms which typically takes at least 5 years. Europe's only experienced military units are special operations because the others are so rarely deployed as a large group other than for war games.

Building a military isn't a microwave process. Military spending for EU countries has been declining for 30 years. Increasing military spending wont bear any tangible fruit for those organizations until the late 2030s and thats if political administration changes over that time sustain the funding.

You dont just wake up one day spend money and have an effective military. This isnt an RTS game.

"2 years"
"fully"

I suppose that is what TA is for.
All Germans to 2011 had to do basic army training no? Al

hopefully as presented above you can see the weaseling of your words.

also you need to add some hard conclusions.

some "therefores" i.e. explicit conclusions. it adds structure.

i cannot and will not address scattergun weasels :hubie:

Training is important functional capability even more so. Im not sure how Germany's civilian training program works but if those citizens are training on a monthly basis they arent current. The other important part of that is the capability of the country to deploy their citizenry effectively for war. They dont have the platform and infrastructure capability to do so without using civilian resources.

I fixed my typos.

Whats is a "scattergun weasel"? Ive not heard that term before. Considering you engaged me first im going to assume I'm not one.

The initial thread post was about Europe going to war. Why did you reply to my initial comment with the articles about the UK and Germany increasing military funding? (Genuine question). Especially when neither military currently has the capability to successfully engage another near peer military beyond self defense and wont for years.

IMMIGRANT TETHERS
Another thing...how come people keep saying China is doing great things for Africa and isn't fukking them like the west? We've had multiple threads about Chinese exploitation over there, the way they treat African workers like slaves, and the debt schemes. It may not be the IMF but it's similar wild shyt designed to keep African nations in debt.
because china actually helps build tangible things like manufacture factories/industrial zones that offers mass employment
China has helped africans add value goods to their minerals
and africa dept to china is way smaller than it is to US-west

a few bad actors treating their african employees bad doesn't really hit. Africa has made their choice, it cant all be for no reason

Something is coming but it isn’t what most think

It also won’t happen as “fast” as people believe, but everyone isn’t wrong.

I’ve been thinking of making a thread on it for awhile. Maybe this week.
You gon make the thread?

The Chi
Facts
This is uninformed arm chair analysis at best. It would get you laughed out of any major college global economics analysis class, let alone state department team.

Russia doesnt have the economic or military strength to conquer Ukraine, let alone Europe. The European powers dont have the military or military spending capability to support a war with any near peer without completely wrecking their own economies.

UK has the largest Navy in Europe and they literally have more admirals than they do ships. Their total naval fleet size is less than a quarter of the size of the American Atlantic fleet. And every EU country has dropped military spending (as a % of GDP) over the last 30 years. The reason the EU sends troops to our wars is for battle experience not because they are actually relevant to the war effort.

No one outside the superpowers (US & China) are willing to go to war for resources because they cant afford it and its bad for business. And even we dont want to because its bad for business 99% of the time.
