I will never understand why the US has an almost hands-off policy with Africa. We built a lot of alliances with the Monroe Doctrine. We should be doing the same thing in Africa.

This is total speculation on my part but I think we have an unspoken agreement with certain European nations that we won't intervene there unless it's urgent. We don't even have the African theater commanders stationed in Africa, they're in Europe.
